Responsibilities

Advanced Drainage Systems Inc. is the leading manufacturer of high-performance thermoplastic corrugated pipe providing a comprehensive suite of water management products and drainage solutions. The Material Science Lab Technician is part of a team responsible for all aspects of materials technology from formulating with recycled materials to the design and development of low cost/higher performance material solutions. In this role the candidate will be responsible for various pieces of state-of the-art physical property equipment. The candidate will lead the development of test methods, be responsible for conducting testing using these methods, and expected to make insightful observations, analyze test results, prepare appropriate documentation, and maintain an organized and safe laboratory environment. The candidate will be a key contributor in a collaborative work environment to help drive the development and implementation of materials technology across the organization.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and non-routine tests and analysis using appropriate technical equipment and instruments
  • Record all data and results in specified forms with accuracy
  • Resolve problems by examining and evaluating data and selecting corrective steps
  • Lead the development and writing of standard operating procedures
  • Maintain operational efficiency and accuracy of test equipment. Perform basic maintenance on lab equipment as required.
  • Ensure all safety guidelines are always followed and maintain a clean and orderly work environment
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications

Job Skills:

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Basic understanding of thermoplastic polymers and recycled materials
  • Operate physical test equipment (i.e., mechanical test frame, impact testers, creep test machines)
  • Capable of analyzing and interpreting physical property data to derive meaningful insights
  • Ability to utilize injection molder and lamination press to prepare samples for physical property testing.
  • Technical curiosity & enthusiastic approach to solving technical challenges.               
  • Effective communication skills – verbal and written
  • Proficient in MS Office software (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Willing to travel as required

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education (GED), associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a scientific field preferred

Preferred Experience:

  • 3-5 years lab experience with H.S. Diploma
  • 1-3 years lab experience with associates or bachelor’s degree
  • Experience running mechanical test equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to perform physically demanding work such as moving and lifting equipment, standing for long period of time, etc.
