CNC Shop Technician Position Summary:
The primary purpose of this role is to find a person capable of performing daily CNC operations, set up and machining of 3, 4 and 5 axis mills, multi-axis lathes, and development of critical machining processes. The person in this role will need to outsource the parts to a list of Vendors who the shop is currently working with and see their completion and deliveries. A successful candidate will have strong communication skills as communication between engineers and shop is an integral part of this job. As customer service is an important part of the job, a person coming into this role will be able to represent the company in a professional manner and maintain a positive rapport within the organization and our clients.
CNC Shop Technician List the various duties in order of importance:
Task is a system that is being used by all employees in Meta, it is a tool that helps you order parts, choose technologies, choose material being used, quantities etc. Through Task system you can track orders completion and delivery. It is a tool that is used to have proper communication between engineers and shop personal. It also keeps a history of all that you do in Meta during day-to-day operations.
CNC operator should be able to carefully read and understand task assign to them by one of the CNC programmers. They should be capable of properly set up a job, monitor it during the process, as well as fix any issues as necessary. Typical operations include but are not limited to drilling, grinding, and milling. After the job is done, a person in this role will be required to inspect the part and ensure product quality and conformance to engineering specifications. They will need to understand how to work with different metals and a variety of plastics and to choose appropriate tools to manipulate the material. It is important for the operator to be comfortable around shop equipment to help engineers fix any issues that they might have, such as cutting parts using water jet or laser cutter or using wire EDM.
CNC Shop Technician Perform CNC Operations:
Conduct all set-up and quality operations in support of machining for self and others. Set-up and
Operate machines in accordance with process sheets and any other required paperwork (i.e. drawings, specifications, etc.).
Create, edit, and/or retrieve CNC programs from system files and execute them. Use manufacturing paperwork (travelers, blueprints, sketches, etc.) to: manufacture a product that meets quality requirements. Inspect and verify work before submitting for inspection. If non-conforming, process via non-conforming material procedures
Meet time and schedule standards for assigned work.
Correctly process work via required paperwork and MRP system.
Perform non-CNC tasks when necessary: non-CNC equipment operation, hand-work operations, inspections, saw-cut operations, etc.
Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
Able to do offset, compensations, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Necessary Skills & Experience:
Ability to read & understand blueprints and technical documents commensurate with machine operation.
Firm understanding of CNC programs, including formatting, and editing.
Ability to use various inspection gages
CNC Shop Technician Qualification/Requirements
High School Diploma or General Education (GED) required.
3 to 5 years minimum experience in CNC programming
Demonstrated ability to program using CAD/CAM software’s
Complete work in an accurate and timely manner.
Ability to work weekends and overtime as required.
Advise supervision of issues that arise.
Organizational and time management skills.
Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workday/projects independently.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A genuine belief in continuous improvement and disciplined processes and a willingness to analyze, challenge and change processes, if needed, to create a more efficient environment and culture.
