Summary
The technical instructor develops programs and conducts training to transfer working knowledge and understanding of the Makino machine tool operation, maintenance, safety, and programming to customers, employees, contractors, and distributors. This position will be based out of our corporate office located in Mason, OH.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs "stand-up"classroom and shop floor instruction to customers, distributors, and Makino personnel following established curriculum, manuals, outline, handouts, and texts, and using visual training aids, such as the training machines, graphs, charts, videotape, and slides
Projects a professional image to foster confidence of the trainees in the course content and Makino products.
Confers with Product Management, staff ,and Training Project Coordinator to determine specific training objectives
Utilizes knowledge of Makino products and machine tools in general to develop new training programs, including outline, text, handouts, tests, and hands-on exercises
Plans and designs hands-on shop floor training activities which contribute to the student's comprehension of course content
Observes trainees to ensure their comprehension of the subject matter
Administers written and practical exams and writes performance reports to evaluate trainees' performance.
Product Documentation
Contributes to the development of new product manuals and reference materials including operation, maintenance, and programming guides; and instructor and student guides.
Performs technical review and edits of reference materials, guides, manuals and procedures
Knowledge & Technology Research
Investigates new product designs and developments to determine the impact on future training and documentation efforts and requirements.
Investigates and identifies specific customer needs and installations to satisfy customer requirements for special and on-site training.
Investigates current and future technologies to discover and develop new methods of knowledge transfer which will aid the student's comprehension of course materials.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Although the Technical Instructor does not have direct supervisory responsibilities, he / she is responsible to oversee the progress of the students to ensure the knowledge transfer is occurring
QUALIFICATIONS
Presentation and Writing skills (business and technical.)
Working knowledge of adult learning and competency-based learning techniques.
Technical writing experience in producing manuals, procedural and process documentation.
Leadership skills to include effective training, facilitation and meeting skills.
Computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), Desktop Publishing software (Frame Maker preferred), Graphical/Presentation tools.
Ability to travel as needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
2 year associates degree preferred in business or related program.
5 years technical training experience or perceived aptitude for training
Significant technical background; machine tool background a plus.
