Position Summary
The operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment to distribute, break down, compress and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt.
Responsibilities
Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
Operates roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces and rolling subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness
Determines speed and direction of machine, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures
Pushes hand roller and pound surfaces using hand tamp, or guide portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller
Operates self-propelled steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented, or other type of roller to compact earth, subgrade, sub-base and asphalt surfaces
Operates other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits
Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills
Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
Willing to work hours that are associated to the asphalt industry, including overtime, nights and weekends as needed
Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen
Minimum Education and Experience
3-5 years asphalt industry experience preferred
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Working Conditions
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noise
Ability to lift 75 pounds
Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials

Salary Posting: We are excited to share the base hourly rate for this position is $33.49+. Membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union No, 9 is required upon hire. Condition and terms of employment and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
