Position Description
Northern Improvement is seeking a skilled Field Mechanic. The Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, or overhauling mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, such as pavers, bulldozers, graders, trucks, conveyors, and other equipment used in the construction industry. This position will work with a crew that travels. Traveling is required.
Duties and responsibilities
Analyzing and diagnosing (troubleshooting) equipment malfunctions or failures
Complete preventative and reactive maintenance on all company construction equipment
Use diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices to determine required repairs
Maintain Company equipment and facilities including keeping them in good, clean, orderly condition
Order necessary parts to repair the equipment
Using hoists and hand tools and will examine parts for damage or excessive wear
Occasionally cleaning parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent
Occasionally weld or solder broken parts and structural members using an arc/wire feed welder/O2 torch and soldering tools
All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations
Position Requirements
Qualifications
Minimum two years of mechanic experience
Possess a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred)
Ability to travel
Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment
Working conditions
Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
May be required to work 60+ hours, 6 days a week
Physical requirements
Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
