Position Description
Northern Improvement is looking for skilled operators with experience in excavators, dozers, and/or blades. The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of multiple pieces of construction equipment. This position will work with our Heavy Industrial crew, which travels around western North Dakota and works at several power plants and mining operations.
Duties and responsibilities
Skilled operation of excavators, dozers, and/or blades
Operate various other pieces of construction equipment used in earth-moving operations (ex. Scrapers, Articulated off-road trucks, compactors, etc.)
Operate construction equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage to property
Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and lubricate, refill, and clean equipment as necessary
Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating, and stockpiling
Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings
Report the need for large repairs to the appropriate parties
Must be safety-oriented at all times
Work respectfully with supervisor staff, crew members, and other personnel on the job site
All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations
Position Requirements
Qualifications
Strong work ethic (dependable, excellent attendance, trustworthy)
Minimum two years of operating construction equipment
Experience with multiple pieces of construction equipment is a plus
Must have reliable means of transportation
Possess a valid driver's license
Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment
Working conditions
Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
May be required to work 60+ hours, 6 days a week
Physical requirements
Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
