Position Description

The Assistant Flat Crew Foreman will assist the Flat Crew Foreman with the management of the crew, quality of work, and daily work tasks.

Duties and responsibilities

• Manage the crew that is working with you
• Be a strong leader and motivator
• Train new employees
• Communicate with the foreman to report production and project/crew issues
• Help set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth and align them
• Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed
• Spread, level, and smooth concrete using rake, shovel, hand and power trowel, hand or power screed, and float
• Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge
• Cut out damaged areas, drill holes for reinforcing rods, and position reinforcing rods to repair concrete, using a power saw and drill
• Signal truck drivers to position trucks to facilitate pouring concrete, and move the chute to direct concrete on the forms
• Monitor the weather conditions (wind, heat, cold) and how the conditions may affect the curing of the concrete
• All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations

Position Requirements

Qualifications

• Concrete finishing experience required
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License, or the ability and willingness to obtain one, required
• Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment

Working conditions

• Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
• Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
• Will work weekends as necessary
• May be required to work 50+ hours, 6 days a week

• Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner.
• Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments.
• Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment.
• Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
• Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching.
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
