Position Summary
Under minimal supervision, following prescribed guidelines, performs HVAC installations, maintenance, and repairs of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, adhering to ERIE's safety plans, OSHA, and NFPA safety rules. Designs, develops, and implements solutions for HVAC systems. Provides insight and recommendations to leadership to enhance system performance and maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs preventative maintenance and repairs to HVAC equipment and systems to prevent breakdowns and/or major overhauls. Performs system design layouts that provide flexibility through structure and sizing.
Evaluates and recommends equipment improvements to improve availability, capability and yield. Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment problems. Prepares technical reports to document equipment modifications and equipment maintenance procedures.
Replaces, fits, alters and installs parts as necessary according to trade practices, the City of Erie codes, and company standards. Lays out and installs duct work and piping. Checks, tests, starts, and adjusts controls and regulators. Checks operation after repairs. Uses blueprints, schematics, and manufacturers' specifications and manuals as required.
Operates and adjusts HVAC systems as specified to maintain proper temperature and humidity. Maintains logs or records of gauge readings and other operating data. Takes periodic temperature and humidity readings as required.
Performs equipment failure analyses (including preventive and unscheduled
maintenance).
Continues to build knowledge of the organization, processes, customers, and mechanical infrastructure.
Provides 24-hour availability, overtime, for emergency calls during designated on-call week.
May train new team members.

Qualifications
Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
Associate degree in HVAC Maintenance or equivalent, and six years of Commercial HVAC Trade experience required; or,
Completion of a four-year HVAC Apprenticeship and four years of Commercial HVAC Trade experience required; or,
Completion of Vocational Technical Schooling and eight years of Commercial HVAC Trade experience required; or,
High School diploma and ten years of Commercial HVAC Trade experience required.
Additional Experience
Knowledge of the operation of the Building Automation System as it relates to HVAC control required.
Working knowledge of Medium Voltage Systems and 480 volt systems required.
Previous experience with laying duct work required.
Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate company needs required.
The position requires the incumbent to provide 24-hour availability for emergency call-in service.
Working knowledge of email, spreadsheet and PDF software required.
Working knowledge of proper procedures for designing, installing, and maintaining complex critical HVAC systems, ability to read blueprints, and knowledge of steam boilers is preferred.
At least 1 chiller certification is preferred. (ie: Smardt, Carrier, or Multistack) and OSHA 10-hour certification preferred.
Designations and/or Licenses
Valid Driver's License required.
Journeymen License preferred.
Physical Requirements
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required for this role.
