Assistant Dean, Educational Innovation and Clinical Professor
The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is searching for an outstanding individual to serve as the Assistant Dean for Education Innovation. The academic appointment will be as a Clinical Professor. The i-Learning Center is part of Online Programs and Extension at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Its mission is to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and community needs by providing accessible education to foster lifelong learning by providing a range of online and in-person educational workshops, courses, programs, certificates, and degrees to enhance knowledge and skills in animal health. Specifically, it aims to facilitate the transition of veterinary medicine into the digital era by aiding individuals and businesses by developing the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in an economy driven by advanced technologies.

The CVM was founded in 1944 as the nation's 11 th veterinary college and admitted its first class of 24 students in 1948. However, the history of veterinary education, research, and service on the Urbana campus began decades earlier with the appointment of Dr. H. J. Detmers as Professor of Veterinary Science in 1870, shortly after the University was founded as a land-grant institution in 1867. From these beginnings, the college has grown to be ranked 14 th in the U.S. and 36 th in the world in the 2024 QS World University Rankings of veterinary science programs.
Champaign-Urbana (CU) offers the residential advantages of a medium-sized university city and is consistently ranked among the top college towns in the US. The university attracts students and faculty from around the world, with many restaurants, events, and festivals. CU experiences all 4 seasons, has minimal traffic, and has a low cost of living with parks, recreational facilities, and several Forest Preserves within 30 minutes of campus for outdoor activities. Perched at the crossroads of two interstates, CU is 2 hours from Chicago and has easy access to many other cities in the Midwest including St. Louis, Indianapolis, Nashville, Memphis, Louisville, and Milwaukee.
Duties: The main duties will be to provide leadership for the faculty teaching in the Master of Veterinary Science and graduate certificate programs. This position will work with the i-Learning Center staff to successfully develop and deliver the Master of Veterinary Science, graduate certificate, and non-credit programs that address demonstrated learning needs. They will also work closely with the Veterinary Innovation Hub to advance the development and implementation of technology-based teaching tools for veterinary education.
Required qualifications: Candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree and a master's degree in a related field. Demonstrated experience building and implementing curriculums for professional veterinary or medical education. At least 5 years' of experience developing courses for and teaching in online programs in higher education. At least 10 years' experience teaching either graduate, veterinary, or medical students. Board certification in a recognized veterinary specialty, PhD in a related field and experience working with adult learns is preferred.
Salary : Salary will be commensurate with academic qualifications and experience. The budgeted salary range for this position is $200,000 to $225,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable positions.
