Job Summary
Performs a variety of duties related to Tissue Coordination
during office hours and Donation Coordination On Call. Tissue coordination responsibilities include receiving and dissecting brain specimens,
preparing tissue for distribution and freezer maintenance and inventory. Directly reports to HBTRC Director and Project Manager.



Qualifications


Receives brain specimen donations, dissects them and stores them, taking careful reports and photographic records. Trains off-hour dissectionists Prepares tissue samples for distribution to investigators and carries out quality control tests. Interacts with investigators requesting tissue and NIH NeuroBioBank project managers to coordinate tissue requests. Maintains freezers and freezer inventory. Contributes to data entry and running queries using the HBTRC database and Access forms used for NIH uploads. Participates in method development for brain banking protocols Interacts with potential donors and their families with regard to brain donation, neuropathology reports and registrations. Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities) Dissects tissue specimens Coordinates brain donations during office hours and off-hours (1 week shift every 5-6 weeks). Contributes to preparation and updates of standard operating procedures (SOPs) relevant to their responsibilities. Uploads information and images of tissue specimens. Assists in the tracking and storage maintenance of new and older donor case folders and medical records stored in-house and at an off-site storage location. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all policies and standards

Licenses and Credentials


Experience
One year of experience required Experience in the medical environment, knowledge of clinical terms particularly related to psychiatry and neurology and pharmacology, experience related to clinical record use. preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Personal and communication skills related to interact effectively with patients from varied backgrounds and their families, clinicians, researchers and other team members.
- Requires basic understanding of HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality and IT security.
- Must possess integrity to maintain confidentiality and respect for subjects' rights and individual needs.
- Requires substantial, demonstrated ability in exercise of judgement, discretion, independent action and initiative, and excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel.
- Must demonstrate attention to details and accuracy in data entry.
