Governors State University
is a predominantly Black institution (PBI), a minority-serving institution (MSI), and an emerging Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) seeking nominations and applications for one (1) full-time non-tenure track visiting assistant professor position in Biology in the
Division of Science, Mathematics and Technology

, College of Arts and Sciences. The Biology program offers bachelor's degrees in Biology and Biology-Teacher Education, and master's degree in Biology. The position is available to begin in Fall semester of 2025-2026 academic year and has potential for renewal and extension for AY26/27. The teaching load is 27 credits for three semesters (Fall, Spring and Summer). Applicants shall have earned a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field.

Essential Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be expected to a) have outstanding teaching skills to teach and update undergraduate and graduate courses b) have experience working with non-traditional and diverse student populations and c) assist with curriculum design and the development of academic programs. The preferred candidate will demonstrate strong potential to deliver general education biology courses, including Human Biology/Lab, Environmental Biology/Lab, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and lower division coursework for incoming Biology majors. In addition, the candidate may contribute by teaching a course in her/his area of expertise with a preference for Immunology, and by possibly mentoring research at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Required and Preferred Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications



1. Ph.D. degree in Biology or a related field; ABD in the final stages of completion will also be considered.


2. Knowledge and ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate and graduate biology courses.


3. Documented record of an ability to make intellectual contributions through scholarly publications/presentations consistent with the maintenance of AQ ("Academically Qualified") faculty status under accreditation standards.


4. Ability to complement the program's strengths.





Preferred Qualifications




1. Demonstrates strong potential to deliver general education biology courses including one or more of the following: Human Biology/Lab, Environmental Biology/Lab, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and lower division coursework for incoming Biology majors.


2. Expertise and ability to teach courses in Immunology.


3. Experience in mentoring research at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
