The Senior Manager, Pyroprocessing Technology - Cement plays a vital role within the company and will contribute to the overall success and improved operations within Summit Materials Cement. The ideal candidate will have process, operational, mechanical and technical aptitude, analyzing trends and monitoring equipment conditions to ascertain the optimizing pyroprocessing performance of systems within a cement manufacturing environment. Supporting the process, operations, quality, mechanical, electrical, and alternative fuels departments; this role will lead the development of strategies related to the installation, retrofits, upgrades, and refurbishments of pyroprocessing systems including alternative fuel processing to achieve best-in-class operational performance, at the lowest overall cost, while working to support and maintain production functions. This role is expected to uphold all safety, environmental and workplace standards
Roles & Responsibilities
Lead in the development, training, and execution of a best-in-class technical and operational programs designed to optimize plant pyroprocessing and alternative fuel systems; conferring with internal and external technical experts to resolve production and process problems.
Leads technical support and evaluation of new equipment implementation and procedures including training as required.
Establish processes and systems to monitor equipment conditions through systematic process audits and evaluations to baseline performance and develop continuous improvement plans for all pyroprocessing equipment.
Develop guidelines and check lists for pre-qualification, acceptance, processing and use of alternative raw materials and fuels.
Guides process and quality departments in establishing KPIs to evaluate and monitor operational performance.
Interface with vendors, contractors, and engineering firms whose functions are to provide project support with engineering and technical know-how associated with capital project installations.
Support equipment designers / manufacturers in the determination of equipment specifications for plant improvement and expansion projects.
Establish technical training assessments and training programs for cement grinding teams including mechanical, electrical, process, quality, and operations.
Maintain a database containing the "base line" capabilities of all current equipment and processes throughout the organization.
Promotes new ideas and technologies around cement pyroprocessing and alternative fuels technologies.
Leads improvements and innovations within pyroprocessing and alternative fuels technologies and supports manufacturing teams with strategic planning, system integration, technical training, continuous improvement, and plant optimization.
Drive innovation in cement business through technology evaluation for applicability and integration at plant sites.
Interact directly and regularly with production personnel regarding operating procedures that have impact on equipment.
Participate in the budgeting process, providing advice in planning and scheduling of major of more costly maintenance activities.
Remain current in concerns to advances in pyroprocessing and alternative fuels technology through participation of company networks and maintaining relationships with other practitioners and suppliers.
Review and analyze cement pyroprocessing and alternative fuel KPI's monthly and suggest ways to improve performance.
Lead strategic planning and tracking of cement business sustainability progress, including development and assessment of energy efficiency and carbon reduction initiatives.
Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.
Ability, Skills, and Knowledge
Technical understanding of cement and working knowledge of concrete products, practices and technology preferred.
Understanding and ability to comply with all applicable federal, state, industry regulations and standards.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, while building rapport with team members and external departments.
High level of integrity and commitment to overall team results.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites
Ability to travel a minimum of 50% with or without notice.
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.
