Job Summary
Installs, repairs, and inspects smoke and fire suppressions systems; inspects tests, and repairs fire alarm wiring, fire alarm panels and peripheral equipment. Identifies hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
Inspects, repairs, or replaces smoke/heat detectors and sprinkler heads; repairs and tests dry/wet systems; tests fire alarm systems using appropriate diagnostic programs and equipment.
Performs tests on fire pumps and standpipe systems.
Ensures that work is in accordance with relevant codes.
Performs other general building maintenance as assigned.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives University vehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assist with snow removal activities as necessary.

EDUCATION
Required
High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
5 years Verifiable journey level experience in the electrical field OR Certificate in DOL apprenticed electrical trade.

Ability to use diagnostic program and other applicable diagnostic software and equipment
Ability to perform true test smoke detector sensitivity procedure
Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed
Ability to work with wide variety of cultures and backgrounds
Working Conditions / Demands
This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Must be available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.
