5% targeted monthly bonus.

The Doe Run Company is seeking a Steel Handler to convert lead contaminated steel into nonhazardous material and provide for proper removal and storage. This dayshift position will be located at the Buick Resource Recycling Facility in Boss, MO.

Education & Experience:


  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.

  • Experience working in a yard or plant, preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Skilled in the use of a cutting torch and bobcat shear.

  • Ability to identify tramp material (material other than steel).

  • Knowledge of plant layout and procedures.

  • Ability to follow safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.

Responsibilities:


  • Cut lead contaminated steel into blast furnace material using a cutting torch, bobcat shear, floor shear, and plasma cutter as needed.

  • Identify different types of metal, sort, and place in proper storage area.

  • Power wash appropriate material to be removed from site.

  • Correctly identify properly decontaminated material for removal off-site.

  • Fill in as sweat furnace operator as workload dictates.

  • Perform minor preventative maintenance on equipment.

  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Work Environment, Physical & Lifting:


  • Regularly required to wear personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, respirator, hearing protection and eyewear and to work near moving, mechanical parts. Frequently exposed to loud noise levels. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, vibration, and extreme heat.

  • Regularly requires standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and repetitive movement. Occasionally requires sitting, feeling attributes of objects, grasping, pushing, and driving. Requires clarity of vision at 20 feet or more, 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision, the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Regularly required to lift up to 25 pounds; frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds; occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds.
