Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing workplace safety programs to ensure a healthy, safe, secure, and compliant work environment for all employees that adheres to all government (local and federal) regulations and programs.
Essential Functions
Develop, implement, and manage injury and illness prevention programs by performing root cause and failure analysis for incidents
Manage the implementation of risk assessments, ergonomic evaluations, and emergency response plans
Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety performance and accident prevention
Advise senior leadership on safety program issues and the effectiveness of injury prevention strategies
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including HR, Operations, Union Stewards, and Facilities, to address safety concerns and improve overall safety performance
Stay current with changing safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices, ensuring the organization remains compliant
Primary contact for all State and Federal agency issues as well as any issues involving the outside industrial and community areas
Oversee the development and maintenance of the strategic safety plan focusing on the recognition, evaluation, and control of all hazards, and the protection of employees and the community
Develop, implement, and manage occupational health and safety policies and programs in line with regulatory requirements and best practices. Assist with industrial hygiene and environmental control programs as necessary
Responsible for Medical oversight, case management, workers compensation, D&A testing program & compliance
Oversee employee training programs; keep employees informed on the overall mission, vision, and goals for safety
Complete safe work practice audits/inspections and recommend corrective actions
Manage security for facility including contractor oversight via ISN and Emergency Response Team
Participate in process development, PHAs/operating reviews and safety/environmental audits
Primary contact for Health & Safety with regards to the Growth Process, Commercial opportunities and Continuous Improvement
Conduct and participate in HSE meetings
Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data
Lead department and staff; hire, develop, and conduct performance management

Education Qualifications
Required Associate's Degree in health and safety field or Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or Occupational Safety and Health
Experience Qualifications
Required 10+ years industrial experience
Preferred Chemical industry experience
Required 5+ years working in a Health and Safety role
Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge and expertise of regulatory (OSHA/EPA/PSM/DOT/IH/RMP) requirements including Federal and State Safety and Health Laws
Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are required
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is necessary
Self-starter with an ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time
Strong group presentation skills, SAP software usage, and the ability to prepare multimedia presentations are necessary
Experience in a Union environment a plus
