JOB SUMMARY: We seek a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Payroll Specialist in our corporate office in Norfolk, Virginia.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: These include the following but are not limited to the specifications contained herein. Supervisory personnel may require additional duties or job functions that can be performed safely.
Accurately process multi-state, bi-weekly, and weekly payroll for 1500+ exempt and nonexempt associates.
Collect, audit, and upload monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc bonuses into HRIS.
Review & audit electronic timekeeping records for compliance with established standards; follow up with managers & make adjustments as needed.
Prepare weekly and bi-weekly general ledger files, forward them to the appropriate department(s), and upload them into accounting software.
Assist in verifying, calculating, and processing wage attachments following local, state & federal laws.
Enter and/or review self-serve submitted payroll data changes within HRIS; notify appropriate parties; create & maintain necessary payroll files.
Respond to associate questions & concerns as it relates to payroll.
Submit inquiries from federal, state, and local tax jurisdictions to outsourced tax administration service; assist vendors in resolving outstanding items.
Assist in setting up new income and deduction within the HRIS system.
Generate monthly and ad-hoc reporting as various corporate and operational departments request, including participation in annual budget requirements and audit requests.
Comply with company-established procedures and federal, state, and local legal requirements.
Proactively audit and address payroll data to maintain data integrity within the HRIS.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Minimum of 3 years of financial/accounting experience required.
Experience in processing payroll is preferred.
Extensive knowledge of cloud-based payroll software platform, preferably Dayforce; advanced Microsoft Excel skills; working knowledge of payroll best practices preferred; and skilled in technical aspects of financial and accounting recordkeeping techniques.
High degree of professionalism and work ethic; strong interpersonal skills and strong oral & written communication skills.
Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material and communicate with various levels of management.
Strong attention to detail, decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Excellent time management skills; deadline-driven with proven ability to manage changing priorities.
