How you will contribute

A&M's Compensation & Benefits Tax practice is currently seeking a part-time associate to join our group. As a part-time associate, you will work with a team of professionals to advise companies of all sizes on qualified retirement plan issues, executive compensation issues, as well as various other compensation and benefits matters. This position will focus on completing complex tax projects, participating in engagements requiring tax analysis/modeling for a variety of entities, providing tax and business advice in regard to complex transactions, and tax research & writing. With this position, you will further your analytical and communication skills while adding value for our clients by helping solve their complex problems.

Primary Responsibilities Include:


  • Perform tax research and summarize conclusions in written form

  • Keep up to date on latest developments as they affect taxation of employee benefits, executive compensation and payroll practices, in order to keep our clients up to date on the ever-changing regulatory environment

  • Assist with marketing initiatives by writing articles, preparing pitch decks, researching targets, and developing presentations

  • Interpreting and applying laws, regulations, judicial precedent and other guidance

  • Draft technical memorandums and letters related to compensation & benefits issues

  • Aggregating data in Excel to assist with complex nondiscrimination testing for qualified retirement plans, including issues related to complex controlled groups with multiple qualified plans

  • Review executive compensation plans and agreements to ensure compliance with the various Internal Revenue Code and SEC requirements

  • Benchmark compensation against market data and develop reports to support the compensation recommendations

  • Review the calculations and work product of peers for accuracy and reasonableness, serving as a thorough reviewer of data and results (most of the work product reviewed will be in Excel)

  • Prepare employee benefit plan tax returns (Form 5500) for various types of plans, as well as Forms 990 and Forms 990-T

Preferred Qualifications


  • Pursuing Bachelor's degree required

  • Pursuing an advanced degree is preferred: Masters in Accounting/Finance/Tax, JD, or LL.M. (tax), CPA (or in the process of pursuing), and/or dual discipline (i.e., JD/CPA, JD/LL.M.) a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate complex information

  • Strong analytical skills, understanding of accounting theory, tax and accounting practices is preferred

  • Solid PC skills, including Microsoft Windows and Office applications, especially Excel

  • Proficiency in spreadsheets

  • Ability to simultaneously work on several projects and effectively manage deadlines

  • High motivation to learn and grow in a team setting

  • Must be authorized to work in the US without the need for employment-based sponsorship now or in the future. A&M will not sponsor applicants for US work visa status for this role

Compensation Statement

The hourly rate is $ 30 per hour.
