The Aggregate QC Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of aggregates used in the paving, concrete, and construction industries. They are responsible for performing various tests and inspections to assess the physical and chemical properties of aggregates, ensuring they meet the required standards and specifications. The technician works closely with the quality control team and assists in maintaining a high level of quality throughout the production process.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Safety and compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. Follow relevant regulations and industry best practices while conducting tests and handling hazardous materials.
Conduct testing: Perform various tests on aggregate samples to determine their quality, including sieve analysis, specific gravity, moisture content, abrasion resistance, soundness, and other relevant tests as per industry standards.
Sample collection: Collect aggregate samples from different production stages, stockpiles, and quarry sites according to established sampling procedures.
Documentation: Record and document test results accurately and maintain detailed reports, ensuring compliance with quality control procedures and regulatory requirements.
Calibration and maintenance: Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and testing instruments regularly to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
Data analysis: Analyze test data, identify any deviations from quality standards, and report findings to the quality control team for further action.
Troubleshooting: Investigate and troubleshoot any quality-related issues, working collaboratively with the production team to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
Quality control support: Assist in implementing quality control processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, recommend changes in testing procedures or equipment, and contribute to the enhancement of overall quality control practices.
Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, including production personnel, quality control staff, and management, to ensure effective communication and coordination regarding quality-related matters.
Requirements:
- Prior experience in aggregate quality control, materials testing, or a similar role within the paving or construction industry.
- Familiarity with relevant testing procedures, equipment, and quality control standards, such as ASTM, AASHTO, or local regulatory requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording and documenting test results.
- Ability to interpret test data and communicate findings effectively.
- Proficient computer skills for data entry, report generation, and working with laboratory software.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and practices related to materials testing and handling hazardous substances.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot quality issues and propose solutions.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a diverse team. - Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
