Visiting Assistant Professor, Classics at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York

Job Description:

The Classics Department at Skidmore College invites applications for a specialist in classical languages and literature at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, 9-month sabbatical replacement position for the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters. We seek an expert in Greek and Latin who can teach these languages at all levels; the successful candidate will also deliver an advanced seminar in translation on the topic of their choice. The teaching load is five courses - two in the fall, and three in the spring. A completed Ph.D. is required before the start of the fall semester.  Applicants must be committed to teaching and mentoring enthusiastic undergraduates.The search committee will prioritize candidates who

• have the doctoral degree at the time of application;
• have prior teaching experience and an active research agenda;
• have developed, or are able to develop, courses on authors, texts, and topics that would appeal to undergraduates; and
• can foster productive research habits and skills among our students.

Salary: $67,636 plus comprehensive benefits.

All bargaining unit faculty members are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Skidmore College and Services Employees International Union, Local 200United.
