Job Description




Hours: Monday-Friday 9-5 or dependent upon departmental and campus needs; academic year which runs 40 weeks/year mid-August through mid-June. On-call schedule is one night per week and one weekend (Friday 5p-Monday 830a) per month during the academic year.


Reporting to the Director of Health Service, this role will work as a healthcare provider in the medical clinic. In addition, this employee will be responsible for the coordination of gynecological and gender-affirming clinical services at Vassar College. They will be directly engaged with day-to-day patient care in medical, gynecologic and gender-affirming services. The employee will collaborate with administrative leadership to continuously improve the patient experience and patient access to available specialty services as previously listed services. The employee will develop and implement clinical workflow refinements based on best practices guidelines in the previously stated specialty areas. The employee will ensure practice compliance with all DOH regulations, policies and procedures as it pertains to the areas of gynecological and gender-affirming services. The employee will work with off-campus partners to provide continuity of care, especially in regard to accessing gynecologic and gender-affirming services off-campus.



Responsibilities



  • Providing high quality, professional patient care both in-person and virtually to patients seeking medical, gynecological and gender-affirming care. Provide on site emergency care when needed. Ensuring proper and timely documentation of all assessments, treatments and patient responses while meeting professional and departmental medical documentation standards.


  • Serve as a liaison with off-campus healthcare centers and practices to ensure appropriate and seamless patient care transfer and access to patient services. Participate in on campus meetings as appropriate.


  • Improving access to HIV/STI screening on-campus through a variety of means, possibly including the development and implementation of an on-campus STI/HIV clinic.


  • Ensuring that the Health Clinic provides LGBTQ+ inclusive healthcare clinic through a variety of means which will include staff training and professional development.


  • Working with leadership on optimizing workflows and staffing models to continually improve clinical operations and patient access to care.


  • Assisting in the training of all clinical and ancillary staff in the areas of gynecological and gender-affirming care, in order to continue to provide quality patient care. Developing and regularly updating training curricula for clinical and ancillary staff.


  • Providing mentorship and guidance for staff development in the area of gynecological and gender-affirming care.


  • Reviewing and implementing all departmental policies and protocols in the professional workflow in order to maintain quality control and ensure patient safety.


  • Supporting the mission, philosophy standards, goals and objectives of the institution and department.


  • Assisting the department in the day-to-day clinical operations which may include obtaining IV access, administering injections, responding to patient calls or emails, performing outreach to patients who were referred to an acute care facility, assisting the DOH with contact tracing efforts when needed, obtaining and processing lab specimens for in-house and send-out labs.


  • Maintaining current expertise in the area of practice.


  • Ability to adapt to changing protocols and guidelines based on the healthcare field


  • Perform additional clinical tasks to support the operations of the department.







Required knowledge, skills and abilities



  • Must have a current Registered Nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner license or Physician Assistant license in the State of New York


  • Baccalaureate degree


  • 3 years of experience in either Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Adolescent Medicine or College Health or related field with at least 1 of those years spent in clinical practice in the field of gynecology or other comparable specialty


  • Current BLS level CPR certification.


  • Independently skilled in the placement and removal of long-acting reversible contraceptive or the ability to learn and become proficient in these skills with the provided training.


  • Progressive leadership skills.


  • Ability to develop, guide, motivate, and coach others.


  • Ability to develop and apply patient care processes toward achievement of specific outcomes and for patient satisfaction.


  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills.


  • Effective communication skills and creative problem-solving ability.


  • Function with a high level of autonomy; self-motivated; detail oriented, and proficiency in electronic health record documentation.


  • Registered Nurse-NYS and Family Nurse Practitioner-NYS OR Physician Assistant-NY


  • Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the department and institution.







Preferred knowledge skills and abilities



  • Knowledge of the electronic documentation system Medicat


  • PALS and ACLS certification preferred.







The starting annual base salary range for this full-time, 10 month position is $75,000-$94,000.
