Job Title:

Special Education Coordinator

Reports to:

Special Education Director

Hours:

40 hours a week 12-month contract

Office Location:

5105 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429

Salary Range:

$60,000-$80,000/year

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Special Education Coordinator collaborates with Special Education teachers, educational assistants, service providers, IEP teams, the principal, and the Special Education Director to cultivate and sustain a culture of learning that meets the diverse needs of students, staff, and families. The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for leading, facilitating, coaching, and supervising Special Education personnel and programs; developing effective parent, teacher, and student communications; supporting, mentoring, and evaluating staff; and fostering teamwork between teachers, staff, and parents.

The Special Education Coordinator supervises Special Education teachers and support staff as assigned.

Essential functions include the following:

Monitor and coach teachers in due process compliance, following all state and federal requirements and laws

Monitor and coach teachers in the use of research-based, effective instructional strategies for students with disabilities

Use assessment data to drive the instructional cycle for students with disabilities

Monitor and provide feedback for Special Education program improvement

Direct ESY programming

Facilitate Special Education scheduling with teachers and educational assistants

assist with the selection and implementation of Special Education instructional materials and curriculum

Analyze assessment data and develop plans to respond to available data for students with disabilities

Collaborate with the Special Education Director to ensure due process and to meet the needs of students

Assist the principal in the supervision and evaluation of Special Education teachers and support staff

Assist the Director by interviewing teacher and paraprofessional candidates and recommending candidates for hire

Assist in the orientation of new Special Education staff members and the professional development of all staff

Facilitate NMAs Special Education team meetings and NMAs child-find process

Conduct parent and student meetings/listen and respond to parent concerns with sensitivity

Follow and enforce school policies and cooperate with social service agencies

Attend conferences, workshops, and meetings to learn current Special Education practices and educational trends

Perform duties as assigned by the principal

Required Competencies

Master degree in Special Education or related field is required

Current teaching licensure in Special Education or MN license in a related service area (such as Speech and Language Pathologist, Psychologist, etc.) required

Extensive knowledge of Minnesota and Federal Special Education laws and regulations

Extensive knowledge of all Due Process procedures and requirements

Leadership experience

Minnesota Special Education Directors License or K-12 Principal License preferred, or ability to obtain
