As the Director of Accounting, you will be at the forefront of our financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting functions. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you'll oversee general ledger maintenance, revenue recognition, budget planning, audits, and financial analysis. You'll also lead and mentor a talented team in Accounts Payable and Payroll, helping to build a culture of financial integrity and excellence.
What You'll Do:
Financial Management & Compliance:
Ensure accurate revenue recognition, grant contract management, and timely invoicing for school district partnerships.
Maintain and oversee general ledger accounts, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting in compliance with GAAP.
Lead the annual budget process alongside the CFO, providing strategic insights and analysis.
Drive audit preparation and coordination, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Strategic & Operational Impact:
Collaborate with leadership, including the CEO & CFO, to provide financial insights that drive decision-making.
Support fundraising efforts by working with Development teams to manage donor pledges and training invoices.
Ensure financial data accuracy, enabling informed strategic planning and forecasting.
Qualifications
We're looking for an accounting leader with a passion for mission-driven work, exceptional financial acumen, and a collaborative mindset.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of accounting and finance experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
Strong understanding of GAAP standards, OMB Circulars, and nonprofit financial compliance.
Expertise in fund accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree (MBA, Finance, or Accounting) preferred.
CPA or CMA certification a plus!
Experience leading financial strategy and operations at a senior management level.

Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary with a range of $70,500 to $105,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
