Description: Our client is currently seeking a Controller for a full-time position.
Summary:
The Controller will be responsible for all areas relating to general ledger and financial
reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles,
practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely publishing of internal and external financial
statements.
The Controller will supervise the accounting staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure
that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position
addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, working capital management, pre-acquisition evaluation, post-acquisition integration, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
The Controller will have contact with senior-level positions and the company's Executive Leadership
which requires strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
Responsibilities: As the Controller you will:
• Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger
structure.
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close processes and financial
reporting.
• Ensure all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled on a timely basis.
• Perform P&L analytics on a monthly basis with comparatives to prior year and budgets;
identify and communicate any areas of concern.
• Ensure the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and
accurate manner.
• Collaborate with the other department managers to support overall department goals and
objectives.
• Oversee Tax Payments, tax compliance requirements and tax registrations in new locations.
• Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of
resources, while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Advise accounting staff, as well as other departments, regarding the handling of non-routine
reporting transactions.
• Act as the primary manager and liaison for the annual external audit staff and external tax
consultants.
• Assist the CFO in accounting for M&A transactions and integrating acquisitions.
• Maintain accounting policy SOP's to be implemented throughout the various accounting
departments.
• Assist in maintaining controls over plant and corporate spending, and monitoring
expenditures related to budget.
• Manage site activities as it relates to cost, production, management reports, journal entries,
month-end reporting and analysis, and standard to actual variance for all locations.
• Develop, implement and maintain internal controls while continuously improving accounting
processes to eliminate waste and shorten close process, including the training and
leadership of the Finance team.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and
applicable laws.
• Establish challenging goals for self, finance staff, and management of company, monitor
results and coach others on actions to achieve results.
• Support CFO with special projects.
• Additional responsibilities and projects as assigned in support of business objectives.
You're a great fit for this position if this describes you:
• Bachelor's in Accounting required.
• CPA a plus.
• At least 7 years of Accounting experience.
• In depth understanding of GAAP and Internal Controls.
• Strong ERP Skills (LucaNet and Syteline experience preferred).
• Highly proficient in current computer software: MS Applications Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Experience in budgeting, standard cost rate development, general ledger/accounting,
management reporting, variance analysis, payroll tax and sales tax reporting, and general
business issues.
• Experience working for private equity owned business a plus.
• Experience with post-acquisition integration a plus.
• Able to conduct effective meetings at any level.
• Able to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions,
evaluate options and, considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions, choose
the most appropriate one and implement solutions.
• Strong management/leadership skills; able to lead people and get results through others;
extreme dependability and reliability.
• Must maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent written communications skills, including the use of proper spelling, punctuation,
and grammar to produce error-free copy, particularly composing letters, reports and
documents used for decision making.
• Outstanding oral communication skills including tact and diplomacy which would be utilized
during customer service, conflict management, development of relationships with internal
and external contact.
• Able to follow verbal and written instructions, directions and other communication in English.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple and diverse projects including,
analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing, problem solving, decision making, creativity in
presenting various options and accurately carrying out assigned projects with minimal
supervision.
• Able to perform in a fast-paced, team environment, under pressure with time constrains while
responding and adapting to change favorably and quickly.
