Control the flow of materials throughout the facility by managing the wave planning, inbound receipt processing, and dock assignment activities, to help enable operations teams to meet daily production goals with minimal disruption. Collaborate with operations, systems, and maintenance functions to optimize product flow and scheduling. Monitor, report, and help resolve system, data, and work process issues that impact the facility's product flow. Supervise a shift of Wave Planners and WMS Super Users.
What You'll Do:
Attend daily shift meetings with maintenance and operations staff to establish and review a materials flow plan that meets management's daily production goals and ensure a smooth information handoff between shifts
Collaborate with inventory control staff to manage pallet positions/holdings to optimize storage, and report issues and propose solutions to capacity issues affecting materials flow
Collaborate with maintenance functions to prioritize and schedule maintenance events to plan required downtime, help resolve simple fault recovery and data issues, and escalate critical equipment and systems issues
Monitor maintenance reporting and systems data for automation KPIs and performance, crane downtime, and system issues, and identify frequent issues to drive help drive root cause analysis and resolution
Make midday and hourly adjustments to staffing and process flow as machinery and equipment become unavailable, and provide operations management with recommendations for labor utilization to adjust for anticipated surges and outages
Utilize systems supporting screens to manage real-time facility flow, select the system screens and reports to be displayed on the screens, and determine when to manually intervene in the operational flow
Adjust flow control management applications as needed to ensure continuous inbound/outbound product flow, and assess performance of material handling systems by pulling analytics from WES and WMS
What Experience and Education Do You Need:
Bachelor's degree in operations management or related discipline; or associate's degree in related field plus 3 years of work experience in operations or production control; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Experience and/or training in the use and functionality of warehouse or production automation and warehouse management systems is required
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Access, and database reporting tools is required
Supervisory experience preferred, but not required
What Could Set You Apart:
Knowledge of WES/WCS systems and how they interact with Warehouse Management Systems
Advanced knowledge and understanding of warehouse flows and operational requirements, including staffing, capacity planning, service levels, measuring internal clocks and appointment windows to ensure operational success, and providing immediate feedback and corrective action recommendations when internal metrics are not met
Basic knowledge of analytical concepts and solutions, including data science and machine learning
Advanced knowledge and understanding of warehouse concepts, including experience with SQL database information and reporting
Proven, strong sense of urgency
Calm presence in the face of high levels of activity
Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative work relationships both internally and externally
Desire to identify opportunities to improve service/uptime, increase accuracy, optimize resources and develop, recommend and implement solutions
Physical Requirements:
Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, with frequent interruptions
Requires several hours per day of sitting, getting up and down from chairs, and reaching, or bending
Requires manual dexterity with normal hand and finger movements for typical office work
Talking, hearing, and seeing are important elements of completing assigned tasks
May require travel by automobile and airplane up for business
May require a visit to facility operations in temperatures at or below freezing
May carry loads related to travel and occasionally lifts, carries, positions, or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds
Requires the use of various electronic tools
Requires the ability to relate to others beyond giving and receiving instructions: must partner with colleagues without exhibiting behavioral extremes
Requires the performance of work activities including reasoning, negotiating, instructing, persuading, or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to constructive feedback from executive management
