The Category Analyst will support the Category Management Team and Sales Organization through delivery of data analysis, planograms and customer presentations. This position will research trends, interpret market data, assess the implications/potential of given market conditions and maintains department software tools and databases.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct market research using a variety of syndicated and custom tools such as but not limited to trend analysis for geographic markets, distribution channels, accounts, brands, and suppliers as well as customer specific point of sale data as a means of supporting and making recommendations in the direction of the assigned retailers' business in support of the category plan
Structure and interpret data (i.e. scan, census, point of sale information) for targeted use by chain sales and category management. Assess economic and market conditions, estimate sales potential, and identify retailer/brand opportunities
Develop and maintain databases and Image Libraries. Support and participate in the development of business recommendations for product assortments, placements, layouts as well as supporting overall performance analysis of pricing and promotional activity and efficiency initiatives
Provide the analytical reporting tools to assist in the collection and analyzing of market data to evaluate supplier portfolios in the marketplace to include sales, pricing, distribution, merchandising, and other programming tools. Assist in the development of both short and long term business plans both as they relate specifically to the retail account and suppliers as directed by their Regional Category Manager
Support the development and deployment of plan-o-grams and store layouts. Demonstrate software proficiency and make recommendations to assigned retail accounts in terms of department layouts and rule development to drive consistency and profit across the retailer's enterprise
Work with the team to maximize efficiency efforts regarding pricing accuracy, returned cases, sales maximization, replenishment efficiency and void closure
Provide training to sales teams on how to interpret syndicated data and how to sell with the data
Perform other job related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree plus 1 year experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong background in market research with strong analytical skills; specifically pertaining to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of syndicated data
Prior use of syndicated data (IRI/ACNielsen), Spectra, Household panel data or Space Planning tools
Preferred Qualifications
3 or more years' relevant experience
Specialized advanced degree such as an MBA
Category Management Association Certification considered a plus. Prior experience in the liquor, food, or grocery wholesale/distribution business
