Our client, a global leader in gaming and esports, is currently seeking an Animation Artist III.
This role supports an unpublished fighting game project and is ideal for an experienced animator with a passion for combat design and a deep understanding of fighting game mechanics. You'll bring characters to life through expressive, high-quality animation while collaborating closely with designers and other artists to shape gameplay and character identity.
This job will have the following responsibilities:
Own gameplay animation from early character development through final, shipping-quality release.
Create polished, expressive animations that enhance gameplay and align with the project's visual and combat style.
Collaborate with game designers to prototype and refine character actions and gameplay mechanics.
Contribute to the development of animation-driven visual effects (VFX) to clearly communicate in-game actions.
Apply strong character insight to reinforce personality, intent, and competitive readability through animation.
Participate in team critiques and feedback sessions, helping guide animation quality and execution across the team.
Work closely with cross-disciplinary partners to improve pipelines and implement new content efficiently.
Qualifications & Requirements:
5+ years of professional experience in animation for games.
5+ years of hands-on experience using Maya for 3D animation.
Strong portfolio or reel demonstrating melee combat animations in a shipped AAA title.
Experience collaborating with combat designers to support gameplay execution.
Solid understanding of animation fundamentals including timing, weight, anticipation, and impact.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
Familiarity with Unreal Engine or similar real-time game engines.
Strong understanding of game design with an emphasis on competitive, melee-based combat.
Demonstrated ability in pre-visualization and storytelling through animation.
Passion for fighting games, with awareness of how animation contributes to competitive gameplay depth and player feedback.
Additional Information: Candidates must submit a demo reel or portfolio showcasing relevant animation work. An art test may be requested as part of the interview process.
