We are looking for a passionate and experienced Safety Manager to join our team and contribute to large-scale projects within the heavy civil infrastructure or transit industries. In this pivotal role, you will take charge of upholding and advancing safety and environmental standards, working closely with field teams and contractors to foster a culture of safety excellence. Your efforts will drive compliance, safeguard our workforce, and ensure their well-being. By partnering with senior project leadership, you will play an instrumental role in delivering successful projects while making a lasting impact on project outcomes and workplace safety.
This is a long term, full-time, onsite position located in the greater Washington DC metro area.
Responsibilities
Enforce, monitor, and document construction safety, environmental safety, and security requirements.
Coordinate with the Department of Safety and Environmental Management (SAFE) as necessary and provide reports to the safety department as needed.
Work closely with field staff and contractors to ensure the understanding of their responsibilities with respect to safety and conduct regular daily safety surveys.
Attend project related meetings including, but not limited to, project meetings occurring in the field or other required location.
Review and comment on project-related submittals including, but not limited to: Job Hazard Analysis, Contractor Safety Manual, Safety Data Sheets, and Crane Lift Plans.
Administer, monitor, and coordinate construction safety aspects to ensure compliance with Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
Direct implementation, administration, and review of the effectiveness of the industrial, construction, and environmental safety aspects of PTASP.
Consult with and advise the Project Manager on developing safety goals and objectives in accordance with the requirements of the PTASP.
Implement and evaluate safety standards and procedures necessary to eliminate, minimize, or control the degree of risk involving people-to-equipment interface in a variety of occupational and related subject areas.
Determine the adequacy of maintenance safety practices and procedures in assuring the desired level of safety and recommend any necessary policy and procedure changes to SAFE.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, engineering, construction management, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
5+ years of relevant experience in a Safety Manager role in heavy civil construction or transit industries.
Successful completion of the OSHA 30-hour Construction Course (in person).
Experience with industry standard construction management software (e.g., Bluebeam, RSMeans, etc.)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in occupational health & safety, engineering, construction management, or related field.
Certified Safety Manager (CSM), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or Project Management Professional (PMP).
Experience with large heavy civil or transit programs ($500M+).
Compensation Details
The salary range listed for this role is $100k-$175k/yr ($48-$84/hr). The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidates level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.
