Position Overview and Job Duties
Under the supervision and general direction of the CISO & IT Director Info Security, the AI Specialist will play a pivotal role in leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative processes for the University. This position will involve researching, developing, and implementing AI-driven solutions to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and student outcomes. Works closely with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, design, test, and deploy AI projects that drive innovation. Helps with solutions to problems that may arise in an expeditious, efficient, and timely manner. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the University of Central Oklahoma.
Responsible for the integration of AI technologies into existing software and cloud services, ensuring that these solutions are secure, ethical, and effectively utilized to improve efficiency and outcomes across the university. This position will be a AI Specialist with general responsibility in identifying and configuring AI platforms and tools to meet university goals and objectives. Coordinates with other OIT departments for integration and connectivity.
Configures and deploys AI services within cloud platforms such as Google (Gemini), Azure (CoPilot), OpenAI, or other LLM's to support various university functions and AI services.
Assists departments across campus in understanding and utilizing AI tools and services, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
Stays up to date with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning. Contributes to research and development efforts in AI technologies.
Designs and conducts experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of AI solutions and optimize for desired outcomes.
Ensures compliance with data privacy and security regulations.
Creates and maintains documentation including AI models, algorithms, and operational and support procedures. Publishes client-facing support documents to improve user experience.
Researches and communicates new features of assigned application(s) and unused tool functionality to drive the platform expansion and adoption, which may include developing road maps, guides, standards, and procedures.
Continually updates skills and knowledge relative to the position and the technology industry.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience Required
Bachelor's degree plus 1 year experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, or other relevant field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of enterprise tools for Artificial Intelligence, their configuration, and use across an enterprise setting.
Qualifications / Experience Preferred
Familiarity with functional design principles, object-oriented programming principles, basic algorithms.
Experience with cloud platforms such as Gsuites, AWS, or Azure, especially related to AI.
Experience with project management methodologies such as Agile or Scrum.
Experience working in a higher education setting preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / AbilitiesMust possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, disseminate, and present significant amounts of information with an attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to Communicate complex AI concepts and findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner. Ability to facilitate team interaction and client meetings effectively. Ability to work independently or with specialized group and maintain courteous attitude in dealing with students, faculty, and staff. Manage and prioritize work effectively with minimal supervision. Proficient with Microsoft Office Professional. Continually updates skills and knowledge relative to the position and the technology industry. This position may be assigned 24x7x365 on-call rotation responsibilities and requires the successful candidate to have high-speed internet access to their residence and maintain a smart phone on which to receive telephone calls, email, SMS messages from servers and authorized OIT personnel.
