ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY Wind River Systems is seeking safety engineer join its certification office team to support the execution of the safety lifecycle activities for Wind River’s safety critical products. The safety engineer will also train, mentor and work with the teams for the execution of the planned safety lifecycle activities. As part of continuous improvement, the safety engineer will also participate in defining requirements or suggesting improvements to Wind River’s development lifecycle process and tools or plans & processes. The projects you support will accelerate Wind River and our customer’s development of cloud and embedded connected intelligent systems. Your contribution will help develop safety critical products for avionics systems, autonomous cars, warehouse robots, medical devices, and rail. Your background:
Solid experience with safety-critical software development and automotive software design, following plans & procedures to comply with functional safety standards (e.g. ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and Automotive SPICE) for the release of an ASIL C/D project, preferred
Responsible for leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of functional safety processes, preferred
Performed reviews and identified non-compliance / gaps, from a review checklist and from sheer knowledge of a topic, preferred
Developed and documented safety requirements collaborated with other teams to ensure safety requirements are met, preferred
Troubleshooted and resolved safety-related issues, preferred
Analyzed safety-critical software development, automotive system design, and functional safety assessments, preferred
Ensured compliance of software design and development processes with other safety critical standards (EN 50128, DO-178C…)
Supported / Performed safety analysis at the SW level to
Confirm safety-related part of the SW
Support specification & verification of safety measures
Monitored safety-related performance metrics, developed and documented safety plans, and safety-related design reviews
Trained, Mentored & worked with project teams for the execution of safety-critical lifecycle activities, providing technical support and guidance to team members
Prepared and presented safety-related reports and presentations
Monitored safety-related trends and technologies
Qualification / Skills
This important role requires a thorough understanding of functional safety standards (e.g. ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and Automotive SPICE) and their application to automotive products and systems, as well as the ability to develop and implement safety-critical design processes.
8+ years total experience in safety critical systems, with 3+ years in safety engineering for coordinating and supporting or performing safety lifecycle activities
Good knowledge of the concepts and importance of baselines, traceability, reproducibility
Ability to work with other disciplines in the completion of safety lifecycle activities
Good knowledge of safety analysis methodologies (e.g. FTA, FMEA, STPA), especially in a SW context is definitely a plus
Must be legally able to work in either US or Canada without requirement for any type of visa sponsorship/transfer now or at any time in the future.
