Job Description:




Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening of a Testing Specialist within the Testing Center.




The Testing Specialist assists students, faculty, and members of the community regarding testing services and RVCC course placement. The specialist is responsible for responding to questions regarding placement testing, admissions, and registration procedures. The specialist will work directly with first time, returning, transfer, visiting, and English as second language students to guide them through the placement process, whether through testing or analysis of standardized test scores. The position will also help students to understand the importance of adequate preparation for college level courses, including the role of developmental courses. The specialist will administer faculty, distance education, advanced placement, and other computer based and paper-and-pencil proctored exams.





Essential Duties:





Customer Service Responsibilities:





  • Provide a high level of customer service in assisting students with admissions and testing scheduling procedures. Respond to phone, email, and in-person requests.

  • Provide information individuals need to prepare for, register, schedule, and take exams.

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the services provided by Student Services and other College departments in order to respond to inquiries appropriately and accurately.

  • Schedule individual and group testing sessions.

  • Ensure that customer service interactions with the RVCC community comply with the requirements of the Federal Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA).





Testing Responsibilities:





  • Administer paper-and-pencil and computer-based tests according to established policies and instructor's/institution's directives. Administer CLEP, DSST, and other proprietary tests according to required procedures.

  • Verify student identification to ensure correct tests are administered to designated students.

  • Provide and explain instructions consistently and observe that procedures are followed.

  • Conduct off-site testing according to established procedures.

  • Obtain certifications for tests offered within the Testing Center.

  • Support scheduling, registration, testing, scoring, and record keeping as assigned. Analyze test scores and advise testers of retesting procedures.

  • Consistently maintain a secure testing environment by enforcing established procedures including identification, electronic device, outerwear, and other restrictions.

  • Monitor all testing and present a high level of visibility without distracting testers to maintain an environment that encourages academic integrity.

  • Follow established procedures when a student is not observing testing rules including professionally approaching the student, recording the issue, alerting the faculty/testing organization, and logging an incident report.

  • Assist in onboarding and training part-time staff.

  • Conduct opening/closing procedures for the testing center.

  • Maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of records and tests.

  • Maintain unfinished and completed faculty test files.





Score Analysis, Data Recording, and Reporting Responsibilities:





  • Analyze placement scores to determine appropriate placements.

  • Report test results and placements to students and recommend appropriate retesting opportunities. Suggest activities students may use to improve placement testing scores. Support student registration sessions.

  • Accurately input test scores, placement, and hold codes into Banner.

  • Use appropriate systems (Accuplacer, NRS Pro, Banner, Access, Excel, etc.) for input, query, retrieval, and analysis of information. Maintain and complete reports using retrieved information.





General Responsibilities:





  • Perform general duties, including completion of work orders, ordering supplies, appointment scheduling, and cleaning testing stations.

  • Prepare and maintain inventory of testing supplies and prepare orders for materials as needed.

  • Support maintenance of the web site.

  • Represent the Testing Center in Open House, and other information sessions.

  • Assist the Testing Center Director with special projects and provide assistance when necessary.

  • Assist with offsite testing.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.






Requirements:




Associate Degree required and/or three years of equivalent combination of experience in Higher Education.




Ability to work with faculty, staff, and students in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.




Ability to handle complex, highly detailed and responsible duties.




Ability to work with the college's registration and placement process and refer students appropriately.




Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office, Access and database records management.




Must have knowledge of the facility, Internet navigation, including email system.




Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.




Excellent written and oral communication skills.




Must be able to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.




Excellent customer service skills as demonstrated by related successful work experience.




Detail oriented individual with an ability to multi-task in a high-volume setting.




Mature, professional judgment and a commitment to excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:




Bilingual - Spanish.




Bachelor's degree, preferred.




Previous experience with Accuplacer placement testing is preferred.






Additional Information:





Schedule:




Full time position (37.5 hours per week). Evening and Saturday hours are required.




Blackout periods (no vacation or time off) apply during the periods of heaviest testing, e.g. final exams or the weeks just prior to the beginning of a semester.




Testing Center Hours:





  • Monday to Thursday - 8:30am - 8pm

  • Friday - 9am - 4:30pm

  • Saturday - 9am - 1pm
