Doctor's of Physical Therapy is hiring Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)! Signing Bonus!

New grads are welcome to apply! Full-time Licensed and Certified ATC to provide High School sports medicine outreach for Ankeny Community School District. The qualified candidate will work to expand event and training room coverage for growing High School and Middle School programs.

This position will average 40 hours/week. The ATC will provide afternoon and evening High School and/or Middle School event coverage, daily training room and practice coverage. Must be skilled in injury assessment and first aid care, possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and work effectively with all members of the Athletics Department. The ATC will work daily to communicate athlete status to coaches, parents, and school nurse and coordinate necessary referrals with physicians, specialists, and physical therapy.

Position Purpose:
This position is responsible for the evaluation and progression of treatment of patients of all ages and abilities suffering from injuries or illnesses affecting physical functionality. The Athletic Trainer must also be able to demonstrate the following:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Point of contact for school based programs and contact for services within those contracts.

Effective at building positive referral relationships with the coaches, program and physician offices through timely communication with all parties.

Administers concussion protocol for school athletes including identification of signs/symptoms including effective communication with player, coaches,parents, nurses, and physicians. This includes return-to-play criteria set by the state athletic association.

Identifies which athletic injuries are appropriate for physical therapy referral and facilities the referral process.

Reviews physician's referral (prescription) and patient's condition and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment necessary.

Tests and measures patient's strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency,and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs.

Understand the unique features, rules, and regulations, of the Workers Compensation system as they relate to patient care, documentation,treatment and communication to ensure excellent outcomes for that patient population.

Understand Doctors of Physical Therapy's lines of service, how to perform and recommend them, teach and progress patients, document andcommunicate results to clients as needed.

Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data.

Instructs, motivates, and assists patient to perform various physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities,daily-living activities, and work/sports related functions.

Administers treatments involving application of physical agents, using equipment, such as hydrotherapy tanks and whirlpool baths, moist packs,ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.

Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit

Records treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart and electronic medical record.

Instructs patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.

Completes all required patient documentation, charging and communication with all team members, internal and external, in a complete, efficient and appropriate manner.

Confers with physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of patient's health care.

Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting

Working ConditionsEvening and weekend work may be required in order to fit patient schedules. The job is physically demanding. Athletic Trainers are required to stand for long periods of time. They spend considerable time stooping, kneeling, bending and crouching. ATCs move heavy equipment. They assist with patient transfers and lifts or help them turn, stand or walk. So, to guard against back injury, they must follow proper body mechanics and procedures for lifting/moving patients.
