Job Title Quality Specialist


Location Lakeville, MN


Report to Job Title Quality Supervisor


 


Summary of Position:


The Quality Specialist is responsible for conducting PCQI verification of production testing, records and vendor materials. This position will also provide support to processing, packaging, R&D, and sanitation activities and verifications. The Quality Specialist is accountable for holding product when out of specification for investigation.


 


Functions of the Position: 


Conducts PCQI review of production records and preventive


control records. 


Conducts ingredient sampling, COA review, and label review to


ensure allergen statements are accurate and release of


materials. Holds materials that do not meet specification. 


Performs audits and verification of quality testing being


conducted on processing lines. Assures that action is taken on


OOS and trending results. Hold products that do not meet


specification. Trains operators on Food Safety and Quality


testing. 


Monitors data from analysis, holds, and equipment checkouts. 


Conducts pathogen, indicator, and allergen swabbing per the


schedule provided by the QA supervisor. 


Prepares samples and plates and reads and reports results of


sanitation effectiveness plates.


Performs any extra assigned duties as needed. 


Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe


and quality food by following current good manufacturing practices,


allergen/sanitation controls, food defense/food fraud, HACCP/FSMA, SQF, and


regulatory requirements.


Aware and accountable for maintaining and documenting preventative controls


necessary to ensure food safety and quality.


Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to


management.


Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills, and


information within assigned team and across functional areas.


Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as


professional and leadership development.


Responsible for compliance with all safety policies and procedures established


for health and workplace safety.


Responsible for supporting safety culture by practicing safe work behaviors,


reporting potential hazards, and conducting safety observations as assigned.

Qualifications


Education, Experience, and Knowledge:


Associate’s degree in chemistry, biology, or related field preferred.


Food quality experience required.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


PCQI certification preferred.


GFSI/SQF certification preferred.


Fork truck qualification is preferred.


Skills and Competencies:


Must be able to eat any snack product or nut variety.


Attention to detail, good record keeping, and basic math skills.


Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and stand for long periods.


Ability to use the following: calculator, analytical scale, salt/moisture/oxygen analyzers, water activity meter, and color meter.


May be exposed to high temperatures.


 


Job Specific Requirements:


This position is subject to mandatory overtime based on business needs.


In the event that the Quality Specialist is absent, the Department Manager is responsible for providing an equally qualified person to cover this position.
