Established in 2020, the School of Environmental Sustainability (SES) currently serves >500 undergraduate and graduate students housed within a state-of-the-art geothermally heated/cooled building complex containing teaching & research labs, a 3,100 sq ft greenhouse, two aquaponics facilities, a biodiesel production facility, and a green dormitory. The Loyola University Retreat & Ecology Campus (LUREC) has active ecological restoration projects in a 20-acre wetland and oak/hickory woodland and serves as a venue for three-week summer field courses and research in sustainable agriculture, ecology, and wetland restoration. The SES has nearly doubled its number of faculty and staff since becoming a school in 2020. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the SES is building its academic strengths in five focus areas connected to our century's most vexing environmental problems (https://www.luc.edu/sustainability/research/focusareas/). These SES Focus Areas include Biodiversity, Environment & Society, Sustainable Food Systems, Climate & Energy, and Environmental Health & Toxicology. Our faculty strategically build curriculum and research expertise toward the five focus areas within the disciplines of the physical sciences, social sciences, humanities, economics, business management, public health, law & policy, ethics, GIS, and statistics.
The successful candidate's research will contribute to our Environmental Health & Toxicology Focus Area faculty group and the Environmental Health BS program. The successful candidate should be capable of teaching one of the existing environmental chemistry courses (ENVS 274: Chemistry of the Natural Environment, ENVS 275: Chemistry of the Environment Lab, and ENVS 276: Chemistry of Environmental Pollution), and one or more of the existing environmental health courses including ENVS 301 Environmental Health, Climate Change & Human Health (ENVS 338/438), Gender, Health, and the Environment (ENVS 204), One Health (ENVS298), and/or Introduction to Global Health (ENVS 385/485). Candidates may also contribute to developing a course within their specific area of expertise.
The successful candidate will be expected to be a productive research scholar that involves undergraduate and masters-level graduate students. The successful candidate is also expected to compete for external research funding to support a productive research program related to their scholarly expertise.

This salary range is for a nine-month academic appointment. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree; training; field or discipline; budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs. Salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances.
