The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology beginning Fall 2025. The Department of Psychology offers rigorous, empirically grounded training in psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. At the undergraduate level, our programs provide a broad-based introduction to the field that is applicable to a wide variety of careers, and that forms a solid foundation for those who wish to pursue advanced study in various areas of specialization. At the graduate level, we offer specialized training in applied social, clinical, and developmental psychology. For more information about the department, please visit our website at https://www.luc.edu/psychology/about/welcome/.
We welcome candidates with research and clinical expertise in the examination of how individuals, families, and/or communities experience and respond to stress, trauma, and adversity (e.g., exposure to violence, oppression, discrimination, bias, racism). The successful candidate will have a culturally responsive approach to: A) research initiatives, B) mentorship practices of a diverse graduate student body, and C) clinical philosophy/orientation. See additional information below.
This search is part of a College-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are reflective of our diverse student body, committed to interdisciplinarity, dedicated to the pursuit of external grants, and appreciative of a Jesuit, Catholic education. As a University that is situated in the world-class, multicultural City of Chicago and dedicated to mentoring a diverse student body, many of whom come from underrepresented and underserved populations, we especially encourage applications from candidates from underrepresented groups.
Preferred candidates will significantly contribute to the PhD program in clinical psychology and will teach a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses. The successful candidate will also demonstrate (a) an ability to maintain a vigorous, ongoing program of research and publication; (b) the potential to secure external grant funding to support that research; © an ability to contribute in a substantial way to the university's mission to promote social justice and equity; and (d) a clinically applied, culturally responsive, and theoretically integrative perspective to research and mentorship activities.
Candidates for the position will have a PhD in Clinical Psychology and will be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Illinois, although candidates without interest in seeking licensure will be considered. Candidates must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in research and teaching and have a record of (or clear potential for) distinguished scholarship, grant-funded research, and student mentorship. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to mentor, support, and potentially supervise students from diverse backgrounds. Experience working or conducting research in the specialty areas noted above is desirable. Candidates must be willing to support the mission of Loyola University Chicago and the goals of a Jesuit, Catholic education.
