Job Description Summary:

PayPal is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to spearhead our products in the Digital Wallet space. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development team that is critical to PayPal's consumer experience and our strategy - i.e., PayPal Everywhere. These areas include PayPal's in-app wallet, integrations with key financial systems, and real-time wallet functionality extending beyond payments.

Meet our Team:


PayPal's Digital Wallet team owns the set of features that customers use to manage their financial connections, payment instruments and loyalty programs - basically a digital representation of their real-life wallet.



Your Way to Impact:


As a Director of Engineering, you will lead a team to build and maintain the in-app wallet, integrations with financial systems, and real-time wallet functionality, focusing on product innovation, user experience, and business growth, while also ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. As the single threaded owner, you will make strategic decisions on behalf of customers, stakeholders, and partners to meet company objectives. You are results-oriented, analytical, self-motivated, and a "hands-on" leader with a proven ability to meet objectives, develop and scale a team, and cultivate superb relationships with cross-functional teams.You also have experience in handling technical issues, leading high-functioning teams through moments of ambiguity, and determining cost-effective ways to implement the organization's engineering roadmap.



Your Day to Day:


  • Aid in the development and growth of PayPal Digital Wallet engineering and technology strategy.

  • Hire, lead and grow high-functioning teams and engineers within your organization.

  • Establish clear goals, objectives, and performance expectations for team members.

  • Develop and execute initiatives and drive business goals with cross-functional partners.

  • Oversee the planning and execution of software development projects, ensuring they are completed on time, with high quality, and within budget.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, and QA) to define scope and requirements of technology-driven projects.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and cohesion.

  • Allocate resources effectively to meet business needs and project priorities.





What You Bring:

  • Degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field.Advanced degree is preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in engineering, product and/or technology, ideally in a finance or digital payments environment.

  • 5+ years of experience in leading technical organizations.

  • Experience in scaling and developing internationally dispersed teams with an appreciation for cultural nuances.

  • Deep understanding of global financial and payments ecosystem and/or e-commerce technology.

  • Proven track record of building trust with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to operate at different altitudes - i.e., shifting between high-level strategy and hands-on tactical.

  • Executive presentation skills; including in-person, written, and verbal.

  • Ability to communicate complex technology concepts into the essential points to inform executive decision-making.

  • Travel as needed for team activities and leadership meetings.
