Design, integrate, support and improve manufacturing systems and related processes. Work with R&D to refine product designs to ensure manufacturability, increase efficiencies and decrease costs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Initiate design processes in compliance with all Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery requirements and in compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS)
Provide input to program charts identifying engineering activities, resources required, and weekly updates to Engineering and Program Management of task status including identification of issues with resources and schedule deliveries
Generate preliminary component design, assembly detail, process definition and tooling information in support of the quotation process
Complete design and tooling package, analysis, required reviews and manufacturing process tasks for assigned product line/s utilizing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) methods
Review each Product/Design for the appropriate selection of materials, treatments and manufacturability to meet the requirements and cost objectives.
Perform preliminary stress calculations or analysis on components, assemblies and related product using internal calculations or spreadsheets for design verification. Coordinate concurrent, final design and FEA activities with structures engineering to achieve optimized designs
Generate detail component and assembly drawings for new products. Validates dimensions and tolerance stack up utilizing CAD software
Generate manufacturing operations and bill of material in ERP database for components and products as required
Generate detailed designs and process definition for production tooling, prototyping, testing, and production processes as required
Prepare and support internal and external Design Reviews according to internal and customer requirements
Lead projects to develop prototypes, and transition new products, processes and materials into the production phase in accordance with the product realization process • Document and maintain engineering changes.
Assist manufacturing personnel in resolving issues relative to product designs, product functionality, materials, tooling and production processes that may adversely affect quality utilizing continuous improvement techniques
Coordinate engineering activities with quality, manufacturing and sales utilizing Design for Manufacturing and Test (DFX) methodologies as required.
Assist Quality and MIS department in system development relating to configuration management, and engineering document and data control
Establish and maintain contact with professional societies and educational institutions by review of technical publications, articles and abstracts to stay abreast of pertinent technical developments.
Comply with the rules and regulations mandated under the following quality and governmental standards: ISO 9000, AS 9100, ITAR, EAR and ISO 14001.
Establish and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with corporate policy and OSHA standards.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from a four-year college or university
Previous experience in Quality, Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering role preferred
Ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints and customer design specifications sheets. Understand and interpret geometric tolerance, design intent, primary design features, and tolerance stack up
Knowledge of MRP/ERP system management and maintenance preferred
Familiarity with quality systems and Lean Six-Sigma (LSS)
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
Must be analytical and problem-solving. Accuracy and attention to detail a must.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Must possess basic personal computer skills including a working knowledge of 3-D modeling and word processors.
Finite element analysis and ERP type software a plus.
Must have experience in 3-D modeling software and preferred finite element software.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor.
