The IU Center for Rural Engagement improves the lives of Hoosiers through collaborative initiatives that discover and deploy scalable and flexible solutions to common challenges facing rural communities. Working in full-spectrum community innovation through research, community-engaged teaching, and student service, the Center builds vision, harnesses assets, and cultivates sustainable leadership structures within the communities with which it engages to ensure long-term success.
As part of the Rural Scholars Program, the IU Center for Rural Engagement seeks a student for a project-based internship in partnership with ALASI (Asociación Latinoamericana del Sur de Indiana), a nonprofit organization dedicated to removing barriers to access for the Latino population and strengthening the quality of place in Dubois County. The Rural Scholar will advance community-identified projects that advance ALASI's core mission. Rural Scholars commit to their internship for 1 academic year, from August until completion in May.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
Creates bilingual booklet containing histories of Dubois County Latino immigrants, including graphic design and editing.
Conducts Latino needs assessment interviews and focus groups with community members.
Writes reports and create presentations related to a Latino needs assessment.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
Work Location
Bloomington, Indiana
This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (a mix of remote and in-person work), which may change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
Advertised Salary
$15.00 per hour, eligible for $0.50 rise each academic semester (Fall/Spring) as you continue to work with CRE.
Work Hours
8-10 hours per week, August-May
