The Assistant Vice President of Advancement and Marketing (AVPAM) also serves as the Chief Development Officer (CDO). The AVPAM leads and supervises the implementation of HACU policies, goals and objectives set by the President & CEO and the Governing Board. The AVPAM leads and supervises senior staff and is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive advancement programs and in developing talented team members. The incumbent oversees the Member Services, Development, Conferences & Events, and Communications & Marketing departments, and the Capital Campaign. The following duties will be executed personally or through direct reports.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Master's degree is required with five years of managerial experience. Terminal degree is preferred.
Requires working knowledge of public and private higher education, and administrative experience.
Prior management experience in nonprofit organizations and fundraising from corporations, federal agencies and private foundations is a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including a strong comfort level with public speaking and excellent presentation skills. Spanish language proficiency is preferred, but not required.
Must be able to effectively communicate and present information to staff, external stakeholders, media representatives, and the public in a manner that reflects HACU's culture, mission, and strategic objectives.
Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, research reports, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, collaboration tools (Teams, Zoom), CRM and marketing platforms, content management systems (WordPress), and data tools (Excel, Qualtrics).
Must demonstrate a breadth of diverse leadership capabilities and qualifications including the ability to collaborate with peers, coach and develop subordinates, and design work methods that encourage staff to work cooperatively, to achieve meaningful outcomes and support HACU's culture, mission, and values.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Familiarity with developing and conforming to an annual office budget.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work collaboratively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of professional, technical, and administrative staff to ensure the fulfillment of HACU's mission, goals, and objectives.
Provides leadership and senior management for various designated departments, including Member Services, Development, Conferences & Events, and Communications & Marketing, and the Capital Campaign. Leads the integration and development of projects, programs and services across the departments within the Advancement portfolio.
Directs and evaluates staff under his/her direct supervisory responsibility on the planning, development, and implementation of short- and long-term operational plans to meet the strategic goals and objectives of the departments under his/her supervision and HACU.
In collaboration with the HACU's Member Services Department, develops and implements strategies to recruit new HACU members in all categories and to retain current members. Implements current and new member outreach, benefits, and services. Continuously evaluates the needs of members and tailors' strategies to meet those needs. Ensures member and membership revenue goals are met and exceeded.
Leads HACU's Development department staff in the planning and execution of fundraising initiatives that utilize best practices in managing an extensive portfolio that includes annual giving, major gifts, corporate and federal sponsorships, and foundations to meet annual fundraising goals. Ensures dynamic processes in all phases of donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Collaborates and strategizes with internal and external stakeholders on fundraising activities. Oversees all development, outreach, and marketing services of prospective donors for unrestricted and special project funding, including conference sponsorships and partnerships. Leads the engagement and solicitation of the HACU alumni.
In coordination with the Conferences & Events Department develops and implements strategies to increase registrations, exhibitors and professional and student participants during our annual conferences, legislative forums, and biannual international conferences. Reviews all logistical, promotional, and programmatic strategies for all HACU conferences and events.
In collaboration with the Communications & Marketing Department, develops and implements strategies to disseminate information and messaging through social media, member advisories, media releases, website and other communication channels. Oversees the development and production of all digital and printed publications, such as newsletters, magazines, conference publications, promotional products, and white papers. Provides guidance in the development of messages and communications on behalf of the HACU President and CEO.
In partnership with the Development team, develops and implements strategies for the HACU fundraising campaign to promote and secure resources for the eight HACU Institutes and new HACU headquarters.
Serves as a member of the HACU executive team, providing leadership in the development and execution of special initiatives, committees and task forces as assigned by the President and CEO. Acts as a liaison, creates reports, and offers support for the activities and committees of the HACU Governing Board.
Oversees that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct reports are defined, understood, and executed appropriately.
Ensures that all departmental activities and operations are carried out in a timely and effective way.
Safeguards all HACU memoranda of understanding and other such partnership agreements and consults with related HACU staff in charge of the respective department to assess their appropriate implementation and seek their renewal before expiring.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President for Planning and Advancement and the President and CEO of HACU.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the following department heads: Member Services, Development, Conferences & Events, and Communications & Marketing. Supervises assigned personnel in accordance with organizational policies and applicable federal and state laws. Core responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; administering rewards and disciplinary actions; and addressing complaints and resolving issues.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Standard work schedule is 40 hours per week; however, extended hours may be required, including evenings and weekends. This is an exempt position and is not eligible for overtime pay.
Conferences and events may occur in hotel or convention center settings, requiring flexible schedules and extended hours, including weekend and evening work.
Primary work environment is in-person at an office setting
Must be able to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 15 pounds.
Requires close vision and the ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment on a continual basis.
Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods and reposition self as needed to perform job functions.
Responsible for maintaining the security of HACU-issued equipment, software, data, and supplies.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Frequent travel is required to fulfill essential job duties.
