Job Description
This role supports testing in the Tobacco industry.
Drives innovation by continually evaluating systems and processes in support of product assessment and quality control on products utilizing one or more analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC, ICP, mass spectrometry, smoking machines, or other special purpose equipment and/or multiple wet chemistry and physical techniques)
Performs supporting verification, calibration, and maintenance tasks (e.g., balance calibration and pipette verifications)
Provides technical consulting and expertise to internal labs, troubleshooting methods and instruments as necessary; make recommendations for technical and operational improvements
Calculates, evaluates, reviews, approves, and properly communicates data verbally and in written format to management and client
Assistsother staff in the edits and updates of SOPs, WI, method development reports and other documentation
Keeps accurate records, follows instructions, and complies with company policies
Proactively checks and stays current with all training across multiple learning platforms
Provides analyses support for method validation as needed
Evaluates, reviews, and approves data by other analysts
Independently drafts, edits and updates SOPs, WI, protocols, reports and other documentation
Performs all testing with good dexterity, good laboratory techniques, and a high degree of accuracy and precision
Stays technologically current in the field and attend seminars and training courses as required
Publicizes technical expertise in papers as appropriate with client, presenting poster sessions, or speaking at technical meetings, including direction and support to colleagues and peers
Responsible for supporting unplanned client needs, research and development of very early phase methodologies on new analytical technologies, consulting on any manner of scientific topics, performing scientific literature and patent review to identify potential solutions not limited to the client's industry
Works closely with the Technical Training Manager to provide fundamental scientific education to the ELL-PSS-WS workforce as needed to support the training initiative
Responsible to consult with the client, evaluate, and recommend the purchase of new instrumentation
Responsible for developing novel analytical methods with focus on methods that are technologically pertinent, efficient, green (environmentally friendly where attainable), and cost effective
Oversees and/or executes (or in some cases may coordinate execution of) research projects requested by the client including consultation with client research, product development or manufacturing departments as required to provide superlative service to the client especially during times of urgency. The role is a champion for delivering knowledge, insight, discovery and innovation to the customer
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in chemistry, Biology,or other related degree concentration,PhD preferred
20+ years of related experience, in analytical chemistry,and method development and validations
15+ years tobacco science expertise
Experience with HPLC, GC, ICP, mass spectrometry, smoking machines, or other special purpose equipment and/or multiple wet chemistry and physical techniques
Ability to work successfully in both a team/matrix environment as well as independently
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage priorities, communicate outcomes and maintain timelines for multiple projects
Communicateeffectively with client staff members
Conductall activities in a safe and efficient manner
Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
Preferred Experience:
GMP/GLP/ISO17025 experience preferred
