The Program in Visual Arts is seeking Supervisor for its Digital Lab, a Mac-based computer lab supporting all students enrolled in Visual Arts classes. The Lab Supervisor provides technical support and guidance to students using the facility and maintains and updates the equipment and resources within the Lab. This position reports to the Program Manager of the Visual Arts Program and works in concert with the LCA Technical Support staff and the Analog Photo Facilities Supervisor. The Digital Lab Supervisor arranges software and material tutorial workshops and supports classes by providing digital media tutorials to Visual Art students in classes including digital photography, but also painting, drawing and others.
This is a part-time (65% duty time) position with a schedule set around class times and with some additional flexible hours.
Ensure that all Visual Arts students have consistent access to the facility and the most up-to-date guidance possible, as well as ensuring that basic care and order is maintained in the lab at all times.
• Maintain a regular schedule when the lab will be open and available for use by students
• Provide user training on common tools and applications.
• Ensure that printers and computers are operational at all times.
• Acquire and maintain good working knowledge of current versions of standardized software.
Provide trainings and guidance to classes in digital photography and filmmaking as well as additional classes in Visual Arts that use digital media including Painting and Drawing classes.
• Provide training in experimental media techniques as well as specialized paper and printing formats.
• Assist with the production of digital printed materials for exhibitions in student galleries.
Stock and keep an inventory of the equipment and materials in lab spaces as well as make recommendations related to new equipment, upgrades, and needed software.
Share oversight of printers and Lighting studio with technical staff and Analog Photo Facilities Supervisor.
Essential Qualifications Include:
· Bachelor's degree and 3+ years related work experience
· Proficient with Mac OS; ability to manage and maintain systems efficiently
· Strong interpersonal communication skills
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively
· Prior experience supporting desktop computers, printers, and scanners
· Ability to instruct in the use of Epson scanning and printing processes, Adobe Creative Cloud, including After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere
· Ability to identify various photography, sound, and film equipment and tools
· Ability to work flexible shifts during different times of year. This will require some afternoon/evening shifts as late as 10PM.
Preferred Qualifications Include:
· Experience working with artists, art students, and within an arts school preferred.
· Information Technology background a benefit
