This is a 10-Week Project-Based Internship, where you'll gain hands-on experience, work cross-functionally within local departments, branches, and other JAS offices around the globe. As an operations intern you will assimilate how international shipments and supporting data are planned, executed, managed, and monitored on various management levels. This opportunity offers regular engagement with a wide array of stakeholders, to help foster a deep understanding of global logistics operations. Providing exposure and job shadowing in various JAS Departments including, but not limited to: Air/Ocean Freight, Import/Exports, Customs Brokerage, Warehousing, and Sales. Providing a wholistic understanding of the logistics industry while gaining valuable insights into the decision-making processes and strategic approaches of a global supply chain leader.

Project Scope: Customer Onboarding + Retention, with use of AI Technology
The intern will assist in streamlining onboarding processes, supporting the retention of key accounts, and documenting customer-specific SOPs. They will also leverage AI tools, including the newly implemented "Deep Cognition" software, to enhance onboarding efficiency, improve data processing accuracy, and drive smarter decision-making. Additional resources and software that will be utilized include CargoWise, SmartHub, PowerBI, and various data management platforms to ensure operational accuracy and effective information flow.
By utilizing AI-driven insights, the intern will contribute to creating real-time Customer KPI Dashboards, designed to track key performance indicators from onboarding through final-mile delivery. These dashboards will support continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. Additionally, the intern may gain customer-facing experience, helping strengthen relationships and develop best practices for long-term account retention and engagement.
Responsibilities
Hands-On Learning: Work directly within a local operational branch or corporate office to gain an understanding of JAS's international forwarding operations.
Software Exposure: Learn and actively perform tasks using CargoWise (C1), the leading software in the freight forwarding industry.
Cross-Functional Exposure: Shadow and collaborate with various JAS departments, including Air/Ocean Freight, Imports/Exports, Customs Brokerage, Warehousing, and Sales, to gain a holistic view of operations.
Business Process Management: Comprehend and contribute to tasks related to business process management and support strategic alignment across business rules and KPIs.
KPI Analysis: Assist in establishing metrics, conducting analysis, and generating reports to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.
Leadership Engagement: Participate in regional management review calls and interact with senior leaders to gain insight into strategic decision-making.
Performance Reporting: Help create performance reports that provide actionable insights for operational improvement.
Supportive Functions: Gain exposure to related functions such as ISO standards, Sustainability initiatives, IT, Finance, and Sales.
Process Improvement: Research and propose innovative solutions for enhancing efficiency, with an emphasis on collaboration and alignment.
Project-Based Contribution: Lead a focused project designed to improve business processes, enhance operational efficiency, or refine data accuracy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Enrolled as a RISING Junior or Senior in college with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Preferred fields of study: Supply Chain Management, International Business, Business Administration, or Transportation & Logistics Management.
The ideal candidate for this project scope is someone that has a good mix of knowledge and experience within Supply Chain/Logistics and Information Systems/Technology.
Experience working with AI is a plus in this role.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data analytics tools is a plus.
Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
Self-motivated and capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
Fluent in English, with the ability to evaluate and resolve problems effectively.
In compliance with Washington state law, we provide pay transparency for all job applicants. The pay range for this position is [$18-22] hourly, based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and the responsibilities of the role. The offered compensation will fall within this range, depending on individual qualifications and market conditions.
