Summary:
The Lead Technologist in Histology prepares histologic slides from human tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist. The Lead Technologist may perform administrative responsibilities of the laboratory section assuming additional technical or non-technical responsibilities as needed.
** Shift- 4AM-12:30PM
- 5 days/week
Responsibilities:
May provide supervision of a laboratory section.Reports test results in a timely manner according to established laboratory protocols.Effectively manages resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments and equipment. Plans work and completes job responsibilities in an efficient and productive manner.Observes and instructs student technologists and new or current employees.Reviews and troubleshoots quality control and equipment issues.Assists the Supervisor and/or Manager with writing and reviewing of policies and procedures.May assess competency of team members.Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.Assists or provides monitoring and coaching of team members and provides input in the evaluation of team members performance.Ensures staff compliance with regulatory, departmental and organizational policies, procedures and protocols.Effectively communicates with nursing and medical staff.May perform method validations and ongoing method assessments.

Additional Job Information:
Complexity of Work: This role requires excellent knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers. Advanced knowledge of laboratory information systems. Excellent critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and lead others and take appropriate action when required. Required Work Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Histotechnologist. Other Information: Additional Education Info: Associate's degree with seven (7) years or more of experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. Bachelor's degree required to assess competency. Additional Cert/License Info: Florida State License as a Technologist (TN License) or Supervisor (SU License) in the area of responsibility.
