Position Summary:
Spencer Stuart is investing in our approach to business development, with a focus on more effective and thoughtful client management, improving the impact of every potential client interaction, and creating a more competitive, insights-led approach to business development. In this way, our intention is to ensure each member of our PE Business and other PE focused colleagues have a well research and informed PoV on all things talent advisory within the PE ecosystem.

The Practice & Insights Manager will be instrumental in achieving our ambition to be differentially world's pre-eminent leadership advisory firm in the industrial sector. They will recommend, design, actively drive, and execute insights related projects and programs that help support the Business' agenda with the goal to continually raise Spencer Stuart's reputation as a PE thought leader.

A first of its kind for the PE Business, this role will primarily partner with Practice leadership and other senior PE focused colleagues on strategic business development-related insight and content creation, in line and to help drive our strategic priorities. They will work in close collaboration with the PE Business' Associate Manager of Strategy and Operations as well as other cross-functional teams to help build, streamline, and synthesize knowledge to enable Spencer Stuart to deliver superior value and ultimately demonstrate distinctive, data-driven perspectives on top-of-mind topics for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Owning PE Business' Marketing & Insight Agenda
  • Forming Marketing & Insights Annual Agenda: Work with our Global Co-Lead, PE Business and Associate Manager, Strategy and Operations, PE Business to identify priority areas for proactive primary and secondary research This individual should also identify, highlight, and communicate key talent challenges and trends of which the Practice should be aware, to sharpen business development perspectives.
  • Team Force Multiplier: In tandem, this individual should actively look for opportunities to work with our extended consultant team and/or clients to learn more about what top-of-mind topics are to investigate further.
  • Project Manage Against Timeline: Beyond working to form our overall agenda, this individual will ensure we stay on timeline, and manage supporting resources (i.e., Business Analysts, other business enablement teams) to achieve goals.
  • Innovation: Gather feedback from users of insights to continuously improve the relevance and impact of data products and reports, exploring alternative deliverable formats with the focus of activating insights as a means of business development.


Research Generation and Synthesis
  • Driving Research: As much as this individual will think critically on all major marketing and intellectual capital related initiatives, they will also need to build out much of the research required to inform a differentiating perspective. Thus, they are expected to leverage our existing datasets and knowledge bases as well as create systems to maintain this data.
  • Owning Firm-Wide PE Insight Research Data: As PE touches all other Practices at the firm, manage research continually leveraged by other practices related to their insight agenda on specific core topics.
  • Identifying and Fillings Research Gaps:Actively identify new avenues to create new and relevant research, whether that be through partnering to form new tools and systems, formalizing new external data partnerships, or otherwise.


Team and Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with other Insight Directors and Marketing team when developing Practice-specific intellectual capital and convening events (e.g., market analyses, white papers, and other external publications), looking for areas of overlap where cross Practice pollination is possible.
  • Serve as an Insight Knowledge Manager: Act as a key resource who can provide guidance on major trends, existing resources, sector trends, and specific market, terminology and coding.
  • Partnering on Business Development: Partnering on Business Development: Actively contribute and participate in the global business development effort by sharing insights, ideas and best practices with Insights Directors and Practice Directors across the firm, and develop communication strategy to share IC and other perspectives across the firm to incorporate into relevant pitches and client engagements where applicable. Moreover, in close collaboration with PE Consultants and the Associate Manager, Strategy and Operations, proactively identify opportunities to insert knowledge into pitch materials and GTM strategies.


What Success looks like in this role:

Success will look like creating a thoughtful partnership with the Core PE Business and our Leadership team, as well as acting as a liaison across Practices. This role, in turn, will act as a new sales channel and client engagement enabler for our PE Business, ultimately bolstering our reputation in the market as a thought leader within the PE ecosystem. Initial priorities will include:
  • Research Engine: Identify and drive research needed on core Marketing and Insight goals for 2025.
  • Insight Thought Partner: Contribute meaningfully to the development of new, strategic, and insightful approaches to BD content- and market insights.
  • Multiple Finished Products with Clear BD ROI: Deliver new and relevant pieces of secondary research applicable to active BD pursuits
  • Internal Recognition as BD Asset: Be recognized by the Practice consultant community as a reliable and proactive asset on key BD pursuits and Insights dissemination.
  • Cross Functional Integration: Create strong internal ties with our Marketing and other business enablement teams to act as both a thought partner and research / knowledge resource.


Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will be an intellectually curious, articulate, and thoughtful problem solver who enjoys focusing on the big picture without being afraid to roll up their sleeves. As a growing practice, they should enjoy collaborative, team-oriented environments and be encouraged by the idea of helping build out new ideas, systems, and programs that will strengthen our market perspective and serve to further differentiate us in the market. They have a proven track record of supporting the creation of compelling, insightful content and the agility to imagine new and innovative ways of approaching marketing and insights. Which they couple with a relentless client service orientation to act as a trusted thought partner to our evolving internal client base.
  • 3-7 years of consulting, professional services, market research (quantitative/qualitative) experience
  • Has managed BD content-creation activities and processes
  • Has experience building out new research systems and/or completed robust, nuanced research projects based
  • Undergraduate degree
  • A master's degree would be a plus
  • Working knowledge of PE processes and market
