Summary:

The Mold Repair/Tool and Die Maker position requires basic knowledge of manufacturing processes used to produce plastic injection molded parts. This individual will be responsible for meeting all customer requirements by repairing or modifying existing tooling to ensure optimal performance of the tool and minimize downtime.



Responsibilities:

1) Work closely with Operations Management and Engineering personnel to troubleshoot and diagnose tooling issues on presses.
2) Utilize various precision measuring tools (micrometers, vernier calipers, etc.) to measure dimensions of components.
3) Disassemble and reassemble complex tooling assemblies using hand tools, hoists, and other shop equipment.
4) Clean, strip, deburr, and inspect components for wear and damage.
5) Use various heat-treating methods to harden or temper metal components.
6) Operate basic shop equipment such as grinders, saws, presses, and furnaces.
7) Adjust and replace worn or damaged components to restore tooling to specifications.
8) Collaborate with engineering staff to implement design changes to improve tooling reliability and reduce maintenance needs.
9) Document work performed (work orders, logbooks, etc.).
10) Maintain a safe and organized work area.



Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Basic knowledge of mathematical concepts such as geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, statistics, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

  • Ability to communicate in verbal and written form to supervisor on questions specific to their duties

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Mechanical background or experience working with hand tools

  • Previous experience working with injection molded plastics preferred

  • Experience in basic machining operations (turning, milling, drilling, etc.)

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders

  • Ability to bend, twist, and reach
