Test Auto Engineer I at XACTWARE SOLUTIONS INC in Lehi, Utah

Job Description:

Create automation testing for existing and growing software applications, with the aim of eliminating new defects and speeding up application validation. Evaluate and test new application features as part of the development life cycle. Conduct team retrospectives as part of the development cycle. Train and mentor new QA team members.

Essential functions:

• Use programming skills and available testing technology to create automated load, performance, regression, acceptance, and compatibility tests to run against web and mobile applications.


• Work closely with project managers and development to understand features and create comprehensive test strategies to verify functionality


• Execute and analyze both automated and manual test cases and evaluate their results.


• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to the efforts of other QA Analysts and Engineers in the realm of automation and white box testing.


• Conduct ad-hoc technical training, design, and code reviews, and resolve technical issues for the test automation suite.


• Produce clear and detailed reports that reflect open issues for QA, development, and management groups to review.


• Work under minimal supervision while delivering on the goals and schedules set by management.


• Document software defects using a bug tracking system and report defects to software developers and management.


• Conduct retrospectives as part of the software development cycle.

• Familiarity with various testing types and techniques: black box, white box, integration, usability, smoke, negative, acceptance, regression, etc.


• Knowledge of automated testing tools such as TestComplete, Selenium, QTP, Rational Robot, or others.


• Excellent written and verbal English skills.


• The necessary focus to drill deep into software to identify, reproduce and isolate software defects


• Working knowledge of server virtualization technology like VMWare, Microsoft™ Hyper-V, Xen, Oracle™ VirtualBox, or Remote Desktop.


• 2+ years in the software industry with experience in quality assurance or related work preferred.


• 2+ years of professional software development experience, including n-tier software development experience, preferred.


• Good scripting skills in common languages like Java, JavaScript, VBScript, etc.


• BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical degree preferred

• Frequent interaction with department team members and occasional interaction with members of other teams or business units.


• Occasional travel - very rare


• General office working conditions and environment


• Occasional exceptional hours as needed to meet deadlines
