The Gill Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of honeycomb, high performance floor panels, cargo compartment liners and original equipment for passenger and freighter aircraft. The company also excels in many other types of reinforced plastics including interior sandwich panels for creating structures such as aircraft galleys and bulkheads, honeycomb core and related products.

As a production supervisor you will be leading continuous improvement for safety, quality, and processes. With excellent communication skills and by leading by example you will promote a positive and effective environment for your team. A highly organized, and strategic supervisor who is able to prioritize will find success in this role. You will assign and coordinate the work through the assigned production area. Assure proper staffing levels are maintained to meet production goals and administer personnel policies and procedures for assigned staff.

Reporting to the Production Manager they will perform but not be limited to the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities:


  • Assure that all operations are being done in a safe manner and all safety equipment is working properly.
  • Know how the equipment in the department works and how to identify malfunctions. Notify Engineering if there's a problem with any of the equipment.
  • Have proficient knowledge in company ERP system (SAP) Know and practice safety drills - evacuations, fires, earthquakes and others.
  • Oversee the Lead staff and aid them when they're not performing their functions adequately.
  • Should be managing the crew/s under them:

    • Monitor the performance of the department in term of labor and system transactions.
    • Foster a motivating environment to keep the crew in line to meet performance objectives.
    • Issue corrective action or performance improvement plans as necessary.
    • Partner with leads to evaluate the crew for future opportunities (promotions, etc.) and offer opportunities for developmental training to those who are meeting performance objectives.
  • Monitor the crews training progress, assess individual training needs, and communicate needs to HR. Communicate with other departments as necessary for the performance of the department.
  • Coordinate with Planning on the upcoming production schedule.
  • Assist, as necessary, the Leads to meet the schedule.

The Supervisor should be communicating with the Leads and other departments to:

  • Make the product to meet the quality expectations and
  • Meet the production schedule.

Expectations:


  • Safety. Safety. Safety. Ensures to keep staff safe and following safety protocols at all times and costs.
  • Quality. Ensures to stop production and get immediate guidance if quality of materials is questionable. DO NOT opt for scrap material just to make shipping deadlines.
  • Production. We get paid for product - nothing else. Always look for ways to increase output or improve quality.
  • Support. Positively support, motivate and guide your staff to hit their goals.
  • Communication. It is expected for the supervisor to communicate to their team and to other department leaders what is needed, verbally and via email.
  • Lead. Your crew is a team and it is the supervisor's responsibility to help them succeed as a unit and enforce disciplinary action when performance is not being met by individuals.

Required Qualifications:


  • 3-5+ years of supervisory experience in a high-volume production environment. Preferably with experience in a supervisory role in the aerospace (commercial or defense) industry
  • Fabrication assembly experience in a manufacturing environment; knowledge with composite materials is preferred
  • Experience implementing Lean Six Sigma, 5S best practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective and proper communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proven Technical aptitude.
