Title: Quality Control Engineer- FMEA Moderator

Position Summary:



An FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) moderator plays a crucial role in guiding a team through the process of identifying potential failure modes in a product, process, or system and assessing their impact.



Key Accountabilities:



Facilitate FMEA Sessions:


  • Lead and organize FMEA meetings and workshops.

  • Ensure that all team members are actively involved in identifying potential failure modes and their effects.

  • Guide the team through the FMEA process, including identifying failure modes, assigning severity, occurrence, and detection ratings, and calculating risk priority numbers (RPN).

Ensure Methodology Adherence:


  • Ensure that the FMEA methodology is followed properly, ensuring systematic identification and analysis of failure modes.

  • Promote the use of standard templates, tools, and processes across teams.

Drive Risk Assessment:


  • Help the team prioritize failure modes based on risk assessments (RPN or other methods).

  • Evaluate and propose actions to mitigate the most critical risks identified through the analysis.

Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:


  • Collaborate with Assembly, product design, engineering, quality, manufacturing, and other stakeholders to gather input and review findings.

  • Help the team focus on both the technical and operational aspects of failure modes and their effects.

Documentation and Reporting:


  • Ensure that FMEA findings, actions, and results are documented in a clear, traceable manner.

  • Prepare detailed FMEA reports for management review, tracking action items, and follow-up for implementation.

Continuous Improvement:


  • Ensure that FMEA results are incorporated into the development process and used for continuous improvement.

  • Facilitate follow-up FMEA reviews for product iterations or process changes.

Training and Education:


  • Provide FMEA training to team members or new employees as needed.

  • Educate teams on best practices, lessons learned, and ways to improve FMEA analysis.

  • Perform special projects as needed to improve Quality of the product.




Basic Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Quality, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial engineering and 3 years of engineering experience in conducting FMEA for products, processes, or systems in a manufacturing industry or 7 years of engineering experience in conducting FMEA for products, processes, or systems in a manufacturing industry.




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in cross-functional team leadership and facilitation.

  • Strong understanding of FMEA methodology, tools (e.g., RPN calculation, Risk Analysis Matrix), and associated standards.

  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis, risk management, and failure analysis techniques.

  • Ability to facilitate group discussions, ensuring active participation, and managing conflict.

  • Proficiency in documentation and reporting.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain a structured approach in potentially high-pressure environments.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to see the bigger picture.

  • Knowledge of the practical application of manufacturing process and engine technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the production of internal combustion engines.

  • Ability to work flexible hours or shifts

  • Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite

  • Certification in FMEA (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or FMEA certification)

  • Lean or Six Sigma certification

  • Familiar with plant operations and equipment

  • Knowledge of MTU components and products

  • Strong knowledge of internal combustion engine performance requirements

Daily work is performed in a general manufacturing and office environment.


This position has a compressed work schedule that requires four (4) ten (10) hour days during a Monday through Thursday work week, and the position is eligible for overtime as business requires with causal overtime expected.


While performing tasks for this position, the employee is regularly requested to perform work on a computer inside and outside of the work environment. Also, the employee will be occasionally requested to come in contact with wet environmental conditions. Finally, the employee will frequently hear noise while performing task in the work environment.


While performing physical demands of the position, regularly the employee will be requested to stand, sit, walk, climb and stoop. However, the employee will frequently be requested to balance, kneel, crouch, reach, and squat. Finally, an employee will be frequently requested to grasp and manipulate items in a maneuverable manner to perform daily tasks.


Employees will be occasionally required to push, pull, carry, lift and or move materials within the work environment. The materials will weigh between 10-50 pounds and the employee will be occasionally requested to move materials during the course of a week.


Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus and employee must have the ability to see in color. The employee must also be able to inspect MTU America engine products under a fluorescent black light.
