Job Description:



Job Summary:

Implement recreational programs for the campus community including club and intramural sports, and recreation for students, faculty and staff.  Manage the financial administration of the programs under the guidance of the Financial Operations Coordinator and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation including program and procurement activities. Develop and implement competitive sport and performance-based club sports programs.  Oversee and participate in the marketing of all recreational sports programs. 


 

Supervision:

This position reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation. This position provides direction, guidance and supervision to the Program Coordinator for Intramurals and Club Sports, student assistants, and any additional related staff in recreational sports programs and activities.


 

Essential Duties: 


  1. In collaboration with the Coordinator of Intramurals and Club Sports develop and implement long and short-range departmental goals, objectives, and strategies to provide and strengthen  the intramural and club sports program to enhance the student's experience and provide recreational education and opportunities for the members of the College community.
  2. Oversee the development and implementation of, intramural sports, and club sports. Ensure all programs are in compliance with risk management and safety standards. Direct and participate in providing professional staff event coverage and represent the department at various recreational sports events, and campus and community events.
  3. Manage the financial administration for all Campus Recreation programs and activities. Monitor program and operating budgets, oversee and approve procurement activities, and ensure the proper processing of budget transactions and reconciliation of accounts and credit cards. Assist in preparing a departmental budget by identifying the budget needs for intramurals and club sports.
  4. Plan and implement club sports programs. In accordance with Ithaca College policies and NIRSA guidelines, develop, update and provide guidelines, procedures, and rules for all performance based and competitive sport clubs. Coordinate the recognition process of performance and sport clubs, serve as an advisor to the sport club council, approve sport club team travel, and oversee the sport club budget(s) and scheduling of facility space for clubs.
  5. Create, organize and maintain on-line sport club databases for participation agreements, roster management, and equipment inventory. In conjunction with the Office of Risk Management provide rosters for insured sport clubs once each semester and implement college risk management policies. Provide all sport club contracts for review.
  6. Oversee and participate in the internal and external marketing of campus recreation programs to include developing strategies and promotional materials for intramural, sport and performance clubs and special events. Ensure the updating and maintenance of the campus recreation website.
  7. Oversee and authorize the procurement and inventory of equipment for the, intramural program, sport and performance clubs, and other recreational sports programs and activities. 
  8. Ensure adherence to College risk management policies and procedures to include obtaining completed waivers for all recreational program participants and visiting students participating in campus events; oversee contracts for officials, performers and facilities; and serve as liaison with the College Counsel office as appropriate.
  9. Provide guidance, direction and supervision for the campus recreation coordinator, sport club officers, and student assistants. Develop and maintain student employee handbooks, conduct training, and ensure all certification requirements for all staff working with intramurals and club sports are up to date. Process new hires and approve on-line time reports for all   Intramural and club sport student employees.
  10. Coordinate the development and operation of the Outdoor Equipment Rental Center.




Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree in sports management or campus recreation related field, and a minimum of 3 years previous experience; Master's degree in related field preferred, extensive background and knowledge of Collegiate recreational programs in the areas of intramurals and sport clubs and a demonstrated knowledge of and experience officiating team sports at the College level; strong organizational interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, previous experience maintaining program budgets, some supervisory experience and the willingness and ability to work nights and weekends are required. Master's degree and National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association, and Recreational Sports Specialist (CRSS) certification is desired.


 

Work Environment:

Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within generally accessible, safe, indoor and outdoor environments. The incumbent will be required to operate or use various recreational and sports equipment, a personal computer and associated equipment such as computer printers as well as other office equipment used in day-to- day operations. The incumbent will be required to supervise and participate in recreational programs and activities during regular business hours and some evenings and weekends.

This position is 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Range:


$60,500 - $62,000 , commensurate with qualifications and experience.
