The University of Iowa Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Clinical Nurse Improvement Coach. This position will organize, direct, maintain, and review operational activities related to the HRSA grant within the Obstetrics and Gynecology Outpatient Clinics and for statewide Community and Outreach Clinics; has administrative oversight responsibility for direct patient care programs, program implementation, gathers and analyzes data, participates in the development of process improvements, QA projects, and participates in department hospital-wide design development teams.
This position is a two-year contract role funded by a Center for Disease Control and Prevention grant with possibility for extension.
This position is eligible for primarily remote work but may require limited work onsite at times. Remote work must be performed at a location within the state of Iowa. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical Management - HRSA/MHI
Participates with leaders of CDC PQC supported projects to facilitate implementation of the projects with Iowa birthing hospitals.
Travel to Iowa hospitals and ER units to facilitate neonatal simulation training; overnight stays may be needed on occasion.
Functional and administrative management over the clinical activities within the PQC grant.
Develop analyze and maintain standards of excellence
Develop new policies and procedures to implement recommendations which improve the operations of the simulation and patient safety bundle training program.
Proactively anticipate future operational, personnel, and facility needs and make recommendations based upon accurate and documented assessment of clinical/department needs.
Serves as a consultant and resource for perinatal simulation in Iowa.
Develops and presents educational simulation programs to Iowa hospitals and EMS
Assists in the development and deployment of neonatal simulation trainings.
Educate and aid with issues related to simulation implementation at facilities around the state.
Travel with simulation team to facilitate in-Situ sim as needed,
Participate in making recommendations for change to simulation implementation.
General Administration
Responds to related problems as they arise.
Coordinate data collection for process and outcomes measures related to patient safety bundle and simulation activities.
Communicate and facilitate operations with outlying hospitals.
Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, residents, students and the public.
Acts as liaison between PQC Team leadership and outlying hospitals.
Performs other projects and duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
Current license to practice Nursing in Iowa
5+ years of Nursing experience
Valid Driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Ability to travel and stay overnight as needed while conducting simulation training throughout the state of Iowa
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise in specific clinical area of practice
Prior Nursing Leadership Experience (Manager, Practice Leader, and/or Nurse Educator)
Experience with Implementation of Council on Patient Safety in Women's Health OB Safety Bundles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Simulation and debriefing experience
Experience with Inpatient Obstetrics, Maternal Newborn Nursing, or Simulation
Experience utilizing Evidence-Based Practice
