The Designer owns the design process for shielding-related products and projects, leveraging strong expertise in Autodesk Revit. They are responsible for developing comprehensive industrial product concepts, refining detailed designs, and creating accurate submittals and models primarily through Revit. This role demands close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the designs meet all requirements for safety, manufacturability, reliability, repairability, cost, and schedule, while consistently identifying opportunities for BIM optimization and efficiency.
Job Responsibilities:
Design and develop detailed industrial product concepts and specifications, applying best practices in aesthetics, functionality, manufacturing, reliability, and repairability.
Lead the creation, management, and refinement of Building Information Models (BIM) using Autodesk Revit, ensuring seamless integration with architectural and engineering project elements.
Generate comprehensive Design Submittals and Architectural Submittals within Revit, ensuring accuracy, thorough documentation, and compliance with project specifications.
Coordinate and oversee BIM model exchanges in Revit with architects, engineers, and construction teams to verify compatibility with project requirements and seamless integration with other building systems.
Create and refine 3D models, sketches, and prototypes using Autodesk Inventor to supplement Revit models and visually communicate complex design concepts.
Create, review, and revise fabrication drawings, ensuring accuracy, feasibility, and alignment with the BIM model, coordinating closely with the production team.
Collaborate proactively with engineering, production, marketing, and suppliers to ensure final designs adhere to safety, manufacturability, and cost constraints, emphasizing BIM-driven solutions.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives in design and development workflows, emphasizing Revit-based innovations and best practices.
Identify and implement cost-saving BIM strategies that meet design objectives efficiently, leveraging existing machining and tooling capabilities.
Assess and recommend new Revit tools, automating design processes, or BIM-related technologies to further enhance productivity, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
Maintain detailed documentation and model management processes in Revit throughout project lifecycles.
Prepare insightful reports on BIM process improvements and project outcomes for internal stakeholders.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall objectives within the engineering team.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Advanced proficiency and demonstrated expertise in Autodesk Revit; proficiency in Autodesk Inventor is also required. Proficiency is Autodesk Vault and Rhino is preferred.
Extensive knowledge of BIM best practices, Design Submittal, and Architectural Submittal processes.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effectively interacting with all levels of employees and management.
Ability to independently manage complex BIM projects and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency in Dynamo scripting for BIM process automation is highly desirable.
Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, or a related field.
8 years of design experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
2 or more years of experience focused specifically on design and engineering utilizing Autodesk Revit and CAD software in a BIM-driven environment.
